The Wise Novelist

What A Difference A Day Makes

Yesterday was a warmish kind of day, where the snow that the recent wind had not blown away melted into the earth. Claire and Honey took a nap out front in the afternoon. A blush of robins commandeered Jack The Spruce all afternoon, which suggested that Spring will come earlier than expected.

Of course Mother Nature, being feminine, was just having a laugh at the expense of this old almost human male.

This morning I awoke to a blanket of snow with lots more to come.

To make matters worse, the wind this week literally blew down my large back gate – ripped the hinge bolts out of the wood – that I use to trap the mules in the side paddock when I need to play Ringolevio to catch them and put on their coats. So they are toughing it out for the next 24 hours. Sans manteaux. Luckily, as you can see though the barn doorway above, the hardy mules have the good sense to eat their breakfast inside the barn. I will have to repair the gate this weekend, assuming that the snow stops. No rest for the wicked. Green Acres.

Of course, it’s rather fitting that on Hump Day, TWA loses its first place spot and drops to #2 on the Dark Comedy list. Thankfully all three of The Claire Trilogy still remain in the top 10. Count my blessings.

Back to being Avis and trying harder.

Now I have to go out front and make sure the ever resilient Smokey has survived the night. I’m not sure about rounds. Luckily, Lisa is off today, so I don’t have to worry about getting her back and forth to work.

But that means I have to torture myself on the treadmill without a soundtrack beyond the sound of my tears.

That hump just got a little larger.

Lisa always tells me not to worry and just play the music, but I know that’s just a trap. She likes to sleep in on her days off. And this house is an acoustic anomaly. I can hear a mouse fart in the attic from my basement office.

So we will be strutting in silence this morning.

Hopefully my heavy breathing will get lost in the sound of the furnace.

Well, time to move on.

The legal world awaits.

You fine, five readers put on those hiking shoes and get over the hump.

Thursday awaits with a cup of warm cocoa.

Can Friday be too far off?

But no matter what else happens, have a great day.
