Life Can Be Dear

Yesterday, among the many usual feral creatures I spotted on Casa Claire,

I was surprised by the appearance of a young Mule Deer Buck. I found it wandering on my driveway between the parked cars. It didn’t appear afraid, but it seemed malnourished and a little dazed and confused.

I got it a pot of water and placed a plate of Claire and Honey’s food pellets down to see if it would eat some. It didn’t seem interested.

Ultimately it wandered out front.

and finally into the next door property.

I didn’t want to leave it wandering and unintended, so I called a friend and neighbor of mine – Andrea – who is a Larimer County Sheriff’s Deputy – and my go to for large creature advice – and she suggested that I should reach out to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department. I made the call, gave them the details and sent them a video. Given that the young deer seemed safe on the neighbors back property, I left it alone so Bandit and Smokey wouldn’t bark at it through the fence.

I didn’t hear back from the Wildlife Department and did not see the young dear again. It may have been sick, so I hope the proper authorities answer the call. At this point I can only offer prayers and hope for the creature. All life is precious.

Later that afternoon, I went out on the back deck to see if I could spot the creature, and instead spotted a cool rainbow.

I’ll take my signs of hope and supernatural support wherever I can find them.

Didn’t dream last night.

So, my fine, five readers, get out there and attack the hump. When you reach the top, look out into the near distance for Friday’s magical smile over Thursday’s shoulder. The weekend will be waiting anxiously for your arrival.

Until then, take care of whatever puts food on your table. But most of all, let us make today a great one.
