IMHO NEXTDOOR BLOWS

I used to post my daily blogs for years on Nextdoor without hassle or complaint.

I had a regular readership of approximately 800 people.

Then one day in summer of 2024, I was blocked from posting (or even commenting on other posts) without notice by Nextdoor.

Then one day in August – poof – I was again allowed top post.

No sooner than returning, I was informed by a nice but concerned local that my daily blogs were considered SPAM, but if I posted from a business account I would be fine. So, I did. My first post was reposting my 9-11 commemorative blog from Thursday –

https://thewisenovelist.com/never-forget-9-11-rip-charlie-kirk/

Well, some Karen then complained about that, which led to it being removed.

I’m guessing it’s because I mentioned the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the need for us all to stop the violence and open the dialogue.

This is my response to it all in reverse order (because that’s how I could grab it):

To all of the local busy-bodies who may not like the expressions of my view of the world, see today’s exchange over my last post. I hope you’re happy. I post my daily blogs purely for entertainment purposes. You do not have to read them. After years on Nextdoor, I was banned from posting from my personal account without reason for over 6 months. One of my readers recently explained that my daily posts on a personal account were considered Spam (and reported as such), and that I should instead post from a business account. So, I did. This latest post from my business account was removed because SOMEONE complained. This was my response (which will probably be removed so read it quickly). It’s just not worth it for me to fight Nextdoor’s omnipotent censors each day. If any of you want to read my blog in the future please check out TheWiseNovelist.com. Thank you, Karen(s).

Dear Stephen, the only reason I posted from a business page – my business is being an AUTHOR operating solely out of my very local home – was that my posts of my daily blogs, that have many daily followers on NEXTDOOR for over 3 years, was reported as not being allowed from a personal page because it is then considered spam (which I only learned recently from one of my readers). In fact, you guys blocked me from posting for over 6 months (without any reason given).

Please make a final ruling on this issue one way or the other – but to remove my post on the basis of ONE Complaint – especially because it has a reference to 9-11 (a completely LOCAL political issue – since each local resident was impacted by it – and I’ve posted about every year since I’ve been posting) – is a clear violation of my FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS ( 7 Benefits of Nextdoor as Part of a Local Government Communication Plan). Your company is acting in a quasi governmental capacity.

Did I mention I’m also a lawyer.

Please resolve this contrived issue immediately and allow me to continue posting my blogs without further harassment by your organization.

So, there you have it. Totalitarian censorship based upon a the squeaks of a triggered few, who need not read anything I post, remains alive and well on Nextdoor. I’m done with that platform, which really sucks because I have many local friends and followers on that platform.

Well, yesterday I could not blog because my usually reliable internet was down most of the morning. Had I had the opportunity and access, I would have mentioned how my poor eldest gran, Lucian (yes, the basis for the character in The Claire Saga)

recently joined the ranks of our Grans with broken wings, like Scarlett,

when he fell down a long flight of steps at school and broke both bones in his left forearm.

But Lisa and I have since spoken with him and are happy to report that he is fine (although sore) and will recover in 8 weeks.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and McCaffrey Clan members that survive to adulthood are almost unkillable.

Anyway, we have reached another Saturday here on Casa Claire, and today’s day starts with a visit from the Farrier, so I better get moving.

I hope we all are on the road to recovering from an emotionally draining week.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.

  1. Hey Tom,
I agree with not supporting the likes of Nextdoor and its censorship. Move on. Don’t look back.
And give our best to Lucian. Hopefully he now has some bionic parts that can be useful in future TWA editions.

  2. What a hassle . Glad you can still post on FB and others
The arms will heal up well!! Kids do so much better than adults. All they need is some TLC!
