Hot Days

Everyone across this great country has been suffering with the heat. If you are working outside, you need to try and do it before late morning through mid afternoon or you can really bake.

Thankfully, the only real chore I needed to get done yesterday was Claire and Honey’s monthly mani-pedi, and luckily, Jason my trusty farrier and friend scheduled it for 9 am.

Also luckily, I managed to catch them enjoying the fans inside the barn, so I slipped inside with the halters and slid the doors closed behind me before they realized what was up. Realizing there was no escape, they capitulated and allowed me to lead them to the nearest fence post without much resistance.

Jason showed up and went to work and twenty minutes later the girls were looking pretty as a picture, like this one.

Once Claire was done, I managed to place her red dot bracelets on her front feet for some infrared therapy on her arthritic front hooves,

gave them both a solid brushing and then placed these new anti-fly necklaces – homeopathic not chemical – around their necks to keep the flies off their faces. You see, they HATE fly masks, so I’m doing what I can as we really enter fly season.

Fingers crossed.

Bandit and Smokey enjoyed chowing down on the fresh hoof trimmings. The keratin is good for them and the chewing helps keep their teeth clean. Nothing gets wasted.

After topping off all of the water troughs – front and back – I then managed to put my feet up for a bit before Lisa suggested a lunch outing at the Wibby Tap House in Longmont, which happens to be the place I picked up my recently purchased bronze faerie. We met a lot of nice people sitting outside under their water misters and Lisa sampled some of their home brewed beer. Then it was back home to Casa Claire for the creatures’ afternoon feedings and then back into my Chaise Lounge under the Old Man while Lisa kept up to date on the international perils inside in the air conditioning.

I watched as the smaller birds visited Lisa’s new window bird feeder,

then swooped down to the topped off fountain for a drink.

Where they then socialized in Casa Claire’s version of a H2O bar.

Overall, the day was peaceful and without too much labor. A perfect Sunday indeed.

Well, today is Monday, and I have legal work to do, so I better get moving on my rounds.

You fine, five readers do your best to stay out of the heat, avoid working at your employment if you can, and try to launch the week into Tuesday as fast as possible.

But whatever else we get up, let us make today a great one.

  1. Do the red light ankle bracelets seem to help?
Love all of your natural remedies. My dogs get homeopathic flea/tick collars but I really have to be careful of fleas in Key West. Since we never get a cold freeze, the fleas can be pretty diabolical here.
