Happy Endings

As a writer, I do lean towards Happy Endings.

Indeed, the Universe not so subtly reminded me of that truth when I went to get Jimmy Johns for lunch yesterday. Absolutely love the S. Hover Street JJs in Longmont.

I was also reminded that Happy Endings can occur in real life as well, when my dear friend, and central character in WTLLM, Renee Clarke, texted me to let me know that her friend’s missing daughter, Abigayle Rae Magnus, was found alive and well after going missing on October 3rd.

In today’s often cruel world, that one in particular beat the odds. Prayers for the young lady and her family. Lots of healing on their cards. But a barn burner of a Happy Ending. Abigayle, it’s time for your new beginning. Go big!

Most Happy Endings are far more subtle. They are repeatedly woven into the quiet moments of life. Grace in the mundanity.

And even the subtle Happy Endings lead to a new beginning.

Like when you go to the store with little more than a hope and find exactly what you need to make your outdoor creatures’ lives a little better going forward when NoCo shows its frozen side. The transitions between each season here is a happy ending and new beginning.

These things disappear from the shelves as soon as we get frost warnings.

Or when, because you have unexpectedly transitioned out of the rat race, an undeniably happy ending, you actually find the time during what used to be business hours to virtually attend a 90-minute group manifestation meditation along with thousands of fellow mystical motley crew members from all over the world led by a very cool self-taught young guru named Gabriele Martinelli.

Never formally meditated before – although I am inclined towards unexpected spontaneous meditative states – so this intentionally invoked one was a blast.

And when attending that event went flawlessly because your spanking new computer – my latest transition from the old workhorse that dragged me across the legal profession goal line, a happy ending – can easily handle that bandwidth and still seamlessly buffer the realigning bytes in real time while continuing to slowly recover forty years of data from its holding pattern in “the cloud” in the background.

And because of that prior professional happy ending, you realize that you will have, for the very first time, the new opportunity to attend a meeting of local members of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (of which I am a proud full member) at 9 am on November 2nd,

because the Casa Claire chores you normally do at that time can be done on a Monday morning instead.

And finally, now that I know my legal career has irrevocably and happily ended, I know I am ready to turn to that next big writing project.

A new beginning, indeed. A future Happy Ending in the making. Move over Grisham, this Old Lawyer has a few stories left in him. This one is a bit of a legal thriller with a pretty awesome twist. Stay tuned.

Well, it’s Thursday here in NoCo, and that means two weeks-worth of recycling and garbage need to be marshalled to the roadside along with my regular morning chores, so I better get hopping.

I’ll complete my local rounds and then maybe I’ll go to Einstein’s Bagels in Loveland.

I do have to knock off my last, NY Bar Biannual 24 credit CLE update over the next few days, to tie a bow on my rewarding past professional career. I won’t miss doing that every other year.

It’s all falling in place. Happy Endings – New beginnings.

Jimmy suggests that I book a massage.

You fine, five readers find a happy ending sometime today. Like magic, you just need to look for them. Then start something new.

And no matter what else we get up to today, let us make it a great one.

  1. I was so happy to read that Renee’s friend was found. Too many missing these days.
I’m half way through The Wise Ass book Renee loaned me and the mule’s surprise truly was😊. Loving it and can’t wait to get through the rest of the series!

    1. Roxanne – welcome to my crazy universe. Halfway through TWA is where the story really takes off – goes completely off the rails – but as crazy as it gets going forward through the rest of The Claire Saga, you’ll hopefully enjoy the ride. And Renee is one of the few humans who have actually visited Casa Claire and met the magic Mule herself. Thanks for the support.

  2. i am thinking I may like your next book. congrats on the retirement and make sure you simply enjoy every day… be good to Tom. Well deserved this retirement is..

    1. Thank you, Johnny. I’m absolutely thrilled you “may like” my “next book.” Hope springs eternal. LOL.
