The Wise Novelist

Happy Birthday Lisa

Today is my darling wife’s birthday. As Jack Benny said, she’s 39.

But Lisa has to work today, so yesterday, she fulfilled one more item on her bucket list and got a tattoo. By doing so she was the last in our immediate nuclear family to joined the ranks of the inked.

Now Lisa has run 4 NYC Marathons. She and our family are very proud of that accomplishment. I wove that back story into her fictionalized character, Gina. You see, I actually have very little imagination. I like to steal my stories from my family and friends. So, don’t even stop to say hello to me unless you assume the risk of landing in one of my stories.

Anyway, while Lisa has often talked about getting that achievement commemorated with a tattoo, yesterday she finally pulled the trigger.

The canvas started out pristine.

But after Shane V at Skin Labs Tattoo – soon to be at their new location in Ft. Collins, Colorado – finished working on her.
Lisa was properly inked with that magic number 26.2 and the modernistic abstract running woman on her calf. As a last second addition, Lisa chose to represent the greatest team in baseball on her leg as well. She said she did it in honor of Aaron Judge being appointed the 16th Captain of the Yankees and the first since Derek Jeter. She’s hoping it leads to another decade of Yankee dominance. Fingers crossed.

Lisa also added that mark to counter the bad Juju that came from someone appending that horrific Boston Redsox B to Jack The Spruce, and because Shane V is actually an avowed, die-hard Boston fan. No one can say that Lisa doesn’t have a sense of humor, and irony. After all, she married me.
When it was all said and done, Lisa and Shane posed for a photo opp.
Lisa, the ink looks great. So does the leg. Happy Birthday my love.

Shane, it must have killed you to add the Yankee logo, but well done my fine gentleman. You now have a shot at heaven.

I do hope that having to add that magnificent logo is not the reason you’re are closing down your Loveland location and burning the building to the ground, throwing salt on the ruins, and moving your operations to Ft. Collins.

Anyway, Friday awaits.

Need to cuddle that kitty, do my rounds and torture myself, while Lisa cares for the ill and infirm. No not me.

You fine, five readers embrace this last Friday of 2022 with total abandon.

Line up your Saturday night festivities.

2023 is going to be epic.

But most of all, make today a great one.

  1. Happy Birthday Lisa. Congratulations on celebrating your amazing accomplishment.
It’s quite curious how you have not aged at all but Tom is aging in double time.

    1. Thanks Helen. What a lucky girl she’s been, having been married to me all of this time. It’s better than the fountain of youth!

  2. Happiest of birthdays to Lisa! Too bad your unique tattoo is ruined by that ugly logo. It can be fixed with a little red and blue though. Cheers!

    1. Janice: Is it true that you were driven out of Canada and the only place that would give you quarter was Boston, because Jonestown was no longer extant? Asking for a friend.

  3. Happy Birthday to Lisa. Hopefully 2023 will be the year we get to see Tommy and you. It’s been far too long. Happy New Year to all.

    1. Ralph: Will share your birthday wishes with Lisa as long as you share my best wishes with Debbie in return. Could 2023 be the year we gather in one place?! We better check all of our terms of parole to see if that is allowed.

    1. Bc: I knew you were the only person who would opine on Shane’s shirt. I only wish Lisa did not cover half of it with her hand. It was a classic. But I will share your birthday wish with my darling wife. Give my best to your ever patient spouse, Nan. And please let me know what she thinks of FJM . Or I can just read your obituary in the Rochester papers

  4. Haha! Yes, Lisa should be commended for the admirable job she did of covering up the first half of Shane’s shirt in the photo where she was standing beside him. But she didn’t cover it in the earlier photo of him working on the tattoo.
