The Wise Novelist

Everything Is Relative

The world has gotten so out of control with the Ukraine war and now the massive earthquake that destroyed so much of Turkey and Syria. The death of so many innocents. And, unfortunately, there are so many other tragedies it would be impossible to list them all. My heart and prayers go out to all of those suffering as a result of these tragedies.

When you look outside yourself, and observe the suffering of others, you cannot help but think “there, but for the grace of God go I.”

You donate what you can to the appropriate agencies.

You say prayers for the afflicted.

You count your blessings.

And you feel survivor’s guilt.

We all have had our knocks in life. But there is nothing that I, or any one individual, could suffer that would compare to mass suffering of so many innocent people at the present moment.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better.

But all I can do is continue. Go out there and hold up my tiny piece of the social contract with the hope that the world will exist another day. Help others when I see an opportunity. Be a friend. Love a stranger.

Take care of my family, however that is defined.

And pray for those I cannot help.

Finally, appreciate my blessings.

Well, thank God it is Friday.

You fine, five readers make today a great one.

  1. Pray for the souls of all of those people – for the dead and for the families they have left behind. Lots of suffering and prayer is so important for healing. God rest their souls.

And yes – we all need to be thankful for our blessings – every day.
