The Wise Novelist

Every Day Is A Gift

Tomorrow will be four weeks since Finding Jimmy Moran hit the marketplace. With one 12 hour lapse, it has remained holding the #1 New Release spot in Kindle Humorous Dark Comedy.

Thank you Reagan Rothe and Black Rose Writing for the opportunity and the support.

I have been truly blessed to have all of the Claire books grab this title. None of them have held it for this long.

Now I know Dark Humor is a niche designation. This isn’t the NYT Bestseller list (they don’t even know I exist). But given that “over 400,000 books are published every day” – https://www.tagari.com/how-many-books-published-each-day/ – I take my accolades as and from where they come. I am deeply grateful.

And I like that my books are popular on a grass roots level. Word of mouth has been a god send. Even though word of mouth travels like the gods through space via satellite in bytes.

I honestly cannot comprehend how the writers of yesterday ever got the word out. The internet, and the apps that permit me to negotiate it, have allowed me to introduce my work to so many people. In countries all over the world. It’s been a steep learning curve. And I’ve made a lot of mistakes. But sooner or later I manage to get the message across.

I spend hours each morning trying to market the Claire brand.

But I have also been blessed by the many new friends I have made along this path – and all of the old friends that have come back into my life – who have all selflessly stepped up to lend a hand, and spread the word. And my author friends have been stellar. I thank each and every one of you. You rock.

So, given that the Amazon gods recalculate their sales numbers every hour of every day, and the rankings on all of their lists adapt accordingly, I don’t know how long Finding Jimmy Moran will keep this title, but I do know that I appreciate every second that it does I thank you all for that.

Now it’s Hump Day, so I need to start climbing.

First, a kitty cuddle, my rounds and the dreadmill.

You fine, five readers – Claire’s Theorem is that there will never be more than five live humans actively reading my blogs – have that second cup of coffee and then get out there and take the hill. Wave at Friday from its peak.

But don’t forget to make today a great one.

And thanks again for your support.

  1. Congratulations! I knew it was going to be a winner. As much of yourself that you put in writing FJM it gives each reader an opportunity to get a taste of what growing up in the 60s, and 70s in Riverdale was like. And perhaps make them envious that they didn’t get that opportunity. They may wish that they could hang out and know the characters that you bring to life and share with us all. The ratings are well deserved!

  2. Tom — About two weeks ago I mentioned that I had not yet started your latest book. I said that I deviated from my traditional reading and had just finished reading The Wizard of Oz. I had found it very entertaining, even as my ripe old age of 76. I even said that I thought you and L. Fran Baum engage the reader in a similar way. You took this as a compliment, as I intended.
Today I started Finding Jerry Moran and hardly had the story started but you mention the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. That’s somewhat of a coincidence, isn’t it?
There are some mysterious things going on here.

  4. Way to go! This shows that your inspirations that develop into books, spark something in many of different generations.
Looking forward to the fifth….and hope you’ve figured out that comma-period thing.
