Now I have always liked the number 3. Not sure where that inclination came from but I do remember a whole lot of commercials growing up.
On a purely imaginative level, we would swipe Ballantine whenever we could (the statute of limitations has long run given that it had to happen before 1972, when the brewery closed its doors).
The lasting impression was made rather early.
Of course, being raised Catholic, my affinity with 3 could have arisen from the Trinity nature of Mother Church’s influence.
But I think there is more to it.
- Almost everything in life can (and is) separated into a beginning, a middle and an end.
- We live our lives through birth, life, and death.
- Time is measured through past, present, and future.
- The dimensions of the space we inhabit are measured through width, length and height.
- The Sun’s stages move through dawn, noon and dusk.
- The planting cycle of our food is also threefold: plant, harvest, dormant.
- The ancient matriarchal societies recognized the Moon’s three phases: waxing, full and waning
- The Goddess herself has three expressions: Virgin, mother and crone.

So, when I spotted a free Facebook posting regarding a potential divination based on the selection of three rings, I, of course, couldn’t help myself.
I was asked to make 3 selections from 3 groupings of 3 rings each, and I tried to pick the ones that, relatively speaking, appealed to me.
Abracadabra:
Not too shabby. I’m ready. Cue the tears of joy!
Now another three part system in my universe can be found in my writing. Like life, stories have a beginning, middle and end. I’m in my Third Act. With any luck, it will involve a Hollywood deal and lots of red carpets. Claire, of course, will be fitted with a brilliant tuxedo, a matching top hat, and spats on her hooves. I will remain in my t-shirt, jeans, birks and baseball cap.
Now, in The Claire Saga, technically the “Beginning” would be Finding Jimmy Moran and The Wise Ass. However, you cannot read FJM first. To fully enjoy it, you need to read it 4th, after you read The Claire Trilogy – The Wise Ass, An Alien Appeal and Kissing My Ass Goodbye. Yet another manifestation of 3.
FJM is told in retrospect, so you really need to know the complete lineup of established players to fully appreciate it.
The “Middle” of The Claire Saga would be An Alien Appeal and Kissing My Ass Goodbye. It is where the meat of the overall story is put on the bones. It is where the rest of the major mystical characters are introduced, evolved and/or reborn. Life is constant change.
The “End” (?) of The Claire Saga is in the upcoming Where The Ley Lines Meet. Now there are a whole new bunch of very cool characters introduced in this Third Act. All the central characters from the earlier four books appear as well. One new character in particular that I’m willing to disclose as a spoiler is a magnificent and feisty Jack Russell Terrier named Fergus. He, like all of the other wonderful characters in The Claire Saga, has a real life counterpart. The early readers have adored Fergus. Easy to see why.
As the progenitor (actually just the channel) of TCS, like any parent, I love all of my books equally. However, the early reviews suggest WTLLM may be the best of all. I leave that my readers – all five of you (Claire’s Theorem)- to decide.

Nice one today, Thomas. Know that Fergus is grinning in canine Valhalla as he waits for me to shuffle off the mortal coil (& serve my eons in Purgatory!) so we can redeem the promise of St. Francis and commence our eternal Reunion Tour. The Fergunator is no doubt working his magic to make sure your dreams are realized before ypu have to trade in your Birkenstock elf boots for a broomstick.😉

Soe of the greatest novels come in three. One of my favorites is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It seems like almost all of the really great stories from Star Wars, to the Claire Trilogy has the themes of good vs. bad etc. I agree with the holy trinity- that is pretty much in any Christian religion the basis of it all!!
