Among the many usual and daily little things Lisa and I did yesterday, was, at Lisa’s insistence, a trip to Tommy the barber’s Forbici Barber Werx in Berthoud to schedule an appointment for next Wednesday, 10 am, so I can look almost decent when I soon turn 70, and also for the grans Grandparents Day at school that Friday. To be fair, I am looking more and more like Doc on the cover of Free R.A.D.I.C.A.L.

Which, if you haven’t pre-ordered yet, you really don’t want to miss.
Lisa and I then went to lunch at the Sky Bear Brewery & Pub in Loveland.

Where in the past we have enjoyed many meals and a literary event,
A Wonderful Time – The Wise Novelist
And where, yesterday, I enjoyed a no-alcohol fresh brew IPA called Golden, Lisa enjoyed a high-test counterpart called Rattlesnake, and we split (in my favor) a Margherita pizza., which I called delicious.
Other than Lisa ordering me to put down my cell phone, the lunch was pleasant and uneventful, and in all fairness once the cell phone was placed face down on the table, the conversation was engaging and enjoyable.
[My counter argument – that my cell phone is my writer’s 24/7 marketing tool – was rejected without discussion.]
Anyway, at the next table over sat three young people. Two men and a woman. Two bore a family resemblance and one was obviously a spouse of the female. They were finishing up at around the same time we were and were trying to take a family selfie at their table, so I offered to take a photo of them. They were thrilled and I snapped two perfect photos on the woman’s phone.
When I learned that the other male, Tim, the younger of the two men and the one bearing a close family resemblance to the female, was actually the woman’s nephew and not her brother, I assumed that they were both Vampires, and with that observation breaking the conversational ice, we had a few laughs. When they asked me about myself, I mentioned I was a local writer, at which point they suggested that the three take another photo with me in the picture for posterity. Lisa, who hates being photographed, snapped the shot, and then we bid goodbye and headed off home.
Once back at Casa Claire, I confirmed via emails with my creative shepherd, the Acquisitions and Developmental Editor at BRW (and wonderfully talented writer), Mary Ellen Braswell, the publisher’s newest version of my bio for SOF, which they decided needed a little more quirkiness. Quirky is my middle name. I gave them plenty to work with.
It will now read –
“Tom McCaffrey is a best-selling author, longtime litigator, and self-described consummate New Yorker who relocated with his wife to northern Colorado in 2017. The move rekindled his creative life and inspired The Wise Ass, the first novel in what became the five-book series, The Claire Saga. McCaffrey writes character-driven stories that blend humor, heart, and the unexpected.
Tom is a tree hugger, pet empath, animist, lover of all thing’s quantum, including the impact of energy, frequency and vibration, follower of horoscopes and tarot, believer in mediumship, witchcraft, ghosts, extra-terrestrials, and interdimensional life and visitation. Other than that, he retains all the real-world rationality and grittiness of a born-and-bred Bronx Irish Catholic.”
I like it. And if that is how I now present myself to the world, and how I’ll be remembered, nothing can make me happier.
Well, today is another Saturday, which means the major chores of Casa Claire are added along with the daily routine, so I better get hopping.
You fine, five readers deserve to enjoy some hard-earned respite, so take care of those errands ASAP and then embrace the leisure. Whatever makes you happy.
Maybe a read book with a wonderful cuppa or cocktail.
And whatever else we may or may not get up to, let us make today a great one.
