Congrats to the KC Chiefs. From all reports, it was an incredible game. Winning in OT is always exciting. Winning a Super Bowl in OT is a little bit of heaven.
It seems Patrick Mahomes deserved his MVP.
My condolences to Christian McCaffrey, although it appears he covered 160 yards with a TD. You made all of us McCaffreys proud.
My brother, Eddie, is a life long Chiefs fan, so I’m sure he was thrilled. So is my friend Adrienne Williams Stucki. Pete Sheridan watched it. So did Lenny and Joe and BC. I’m quite certain my friend, Ralph Droz, would spend all of his free time watching those Tudor Deluxe NFL Electric Football games if there was nothing else available. So he and Eddie kept texting throughout. My phone was off, but I read them this morning.
My other brothers are die-hard football fans. So is my SIL, b. My sister, Veronica, pretends to like the game. So I know they all were glued to CBS.
Football is a passion fueled sport. Passion is good.
I love the game of football, played it in my youth, life-long Giant’s fan with Oakland as my answer to Eddie’s Chiefs, but I haven’t watched an NFL game since 2016.
I respect every person’s right to protest what they perceive as injustice in any way they feel gets that message across. Indeed, it’s their duty as citizens. And there is injustice in this world. I applaud all of those people who make real efforts at addressing injustice. Again, its our duty to do so.
Choosing to not watch pro-football has been my personal exercise of that right. I love my country too, I’m sure no more than every other citizen, but this is the tiny and insignificant hill I choose to die on.
I know it’s a meaningless gesture. And in the end, it only hurts me. I miss the game. I miss the collective experience of sharing it with others. But I’ll continue to do it. I’m a t[h]ick Mick. Ask anyone.
And I will sometimes read about important games after the fact, like this morning, just for the purpose of acquiring topical knowledge.
But I’m still thrilled with the spectacle of any Championship contest. Super Bowl commercials are great entertainment, and its half-time shows are amazing. Major events do bring people together, and that is always a good thing. May it always continue. People need collective social interaction – sporting or artistic – as an escape mechanism. People need entertainment. Sports provides common ground. I support everyone’s right to enjoy it. Especially with the Super Bowl.
So, from the reports, yesterday’s game was the ultimate crowd pleaser. A total success. Brilliant. Congrats all around. Congrats to all who engaged in the process, as players, coaches and spectators. You deserved the experience. Let the shit talking begin.
I hope every service worker in Las Vegas made wheelbarrows of tip money this past week. You’ve earned it.
I spent the afternoon with my own wheelbarrow and some water buckets. Then for laughs I binged watched Season 5 of Letter Kenny – lots of hockey – and concluded my evening watching some episodes of Home Town – I like Ben and Erin Napier. Good people. Restocking Laurel one home at a time. I like that the houses all have family names. I know, not too exciting. But it worked for me.
I wish speedy recoveries of all those sports enthusiasts waking this morning with a predictable dose of the Super Bowl flue. They really should make this Monday a national holiday.
I hope you fine, five readers enjoyed the game. And that your team won. If not, you’ll get ’em next year.
But Monday again rears its ugly head.
I need to go cuddle some kitties. Then do my rounds.
And no matter what else we get up to, let us all make today a great one.
