Yesterday was the first snow of the year and I actually enjoyed it. Maybe it’s because it has been a pretty snow-free winter. Maybe it’s because it was only a dusting.
Still, it meant that I had to make sure there was enough food and water for the feral creatures – cats and birds.

I put birdseed in feeders, but I also tossed it on the ground on both sides of the house so that more birds can get to it.
The colder weather kept me indoors and gave me an excuse for getting to another item on the Honey Do list – transferring Lisa’s new Kindle from my daughter’s Amazon account to mine.

That task was challenging enough that I had to call upon my daughter, Jackie, for technical assistance.
That gave Lisa and I a separate excuse to wish Jackie happy birthday.

That’s a slightly older photo, given that Lucian looks more like this now.

But thank God, Jax talked me through the transfer.
A little back story. I based the character Caitlin Flanagan, who appears in the Prologue in Free Radical, on Jackie.
Jackie McCaffrey – Women’s Basketball – New Jersey Institute of Technology Athletics
Proof that nothing dies on the Internet.
I also based the house and property owned by the Simone Handler character in FR on Jackie’s latest Georgia home. That’s Jackie’s pool table in that home. A gift from her husband, Zack – who appears as a character in FJM.
So yeah, Lisa and I are very proud of Jackie. It’s been fun watching her grow to the successful woman she has become. Lisa deserves all of the credit, but I was there to watch and remember.
Oh, and Lucian – Jackie’s son – is the basis for the character of that name in The Claire Saga.
Anyway, Jackie gave Lisa the Kindle when she visited Jackie last month and so Lisa has been “gently” asking me to transfer the account so she can order new books. I finally ran out of excuses not to try. Of course, being a lifelong luddite, it was next to impossible for me to figure it out, but then Jackie finally got on Facetime and talked me through it.
I also learned that I could upload the latest word version of FR to my Kindle library so Lisa can read it one more time. This way I don’t have to keep printing it out for Lisa every time it goes through another edit.
So, yesterday was a productive day and also a day when I remember that my greatest legacy is in the family I have been blessed with. I am also very proud of my two sons – both cops – Luke (also a writer –Amazon.com: Luke Mccaffrey: books, biography, latest update) and Mark (also a beekeeper- Jax & Co. Backyard Bees).
The fact that they all provide me with a basis for my characters and stories is icing on the cake.
Well, here we are – my fine, five readers – at another fabulous Friday. In one door at work, make sure someone notices you in the coffee room, and then slip out the other door and start your weekend.
If it’s too cold to go outside, may I recommend a day before the fire in some cozy nook binging The Claire Saga. It will take you across the galaxy and back without ever having to leave your home.
But no matter what we get up to this weekend, let us all make today a great one.
