Lisa sent me out to mail a Halloween card to our newest grandchild – Delilah James McCaffrey –

who was actually supposed to be born closer to Halloween.

Lisa likes to commemorate her grandchildren’s first year by sending them little crystal figures for the major holidays. She has the item delivered directly to the parents but likes to include a hand inscribed card sent directly. Luckily, DJ’s first big holiday is Samhain (pron. Sow-in), a day especially close to my Celtic heart. Samhain means “Summer’s End” and is the Celtic name for November – my birth month.

Irish Halloween Traditions: How The Irish Invented Halloween

So, Lisa bought DJ a cute, Swarovski, teddy bear.

Needless to say, I was thrilled to find the USPS getting into the spirit of things when I arrived at the post office to mail the card yesterday.

And we know that Mark and Sara will love the Halloween themed gift, as they are both very into the holiday as well. it’s kind of a McCaffrey tradition, going back to our BIC roots.

While we only put out modest decorations here in Berthoud, because there is very little foot traffic driving children to our door on Halloween, we do put out some things, and quite honestly, my house is spooky enough.

However, I’m going to spend the next few days checking out some of the more decorated houses in the area. I’ll try to snap some photos along the way. Quite honestly, they are better than Christmas decorations.

For example, this year I saw a really cool life-sized Jeepers-Creepers Scarecrow on 287, but the wind took him down before I could get by for a photo. Hopefully they will get him back on his pole.

At least I hope the wind took him down, otherwise we may be in for some real spooky shenanigans.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this film – Jeepers Creepers 2 – may be the coolest horror movie yet, especially if you live in a rural area. In fact, I’m trying to line up a visit to a cornfield Labyrinth for the upcoming weekend.

Well, my fine, five readers, another Monday has arrived. I’ve learned in retirement that this much maligned day would happily trade places with Friday if it were possible. Tuesday will be here before you know it.

Take heart you gainfully employed citizens as this day too shall pass. Finish your cuppas and pull up your socks. Embrace the workweek with the intention of impressing your employers with all of your talents. Leave your mark.

I have to go check on Claire and Honey, and then maybe run into Longmont for another 6 bales of hay – all the Toyota (yes, from the novels) can carry. Hay has been a scarce commodity this year, so you need to stock up, when possible, in the fall because the outdoor grazing is reaching its end soon enough.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
