My First Zoom Poetry Reading

I haven’t done Zoom much. Indeed, I can only use my lap top for it since my desktop computer refuses to engage.

Yesterday, Theresa Daly was doing her first public reading of her new book of poetry at an artsy cafe on 238th street in the Bronx – Mon-Amour-Coffee-and-Wine Cafe (Just east of Broadway and the El.)

Now I never got to visit this venue when I lived in the Bronx, but it seems – along with An Beal Bocht further west and up the hill on 238th street – to be another cultural oasis where art and literature can be shared.

Well, after a tiny glitch getting the Zoom attendees hooked up, the reading went off without a hitch.

Theresa engaged the attendees with confidence and humor.

Her voice sounded exactly as I remembered with a soft Irish lilt that comes from her growing up in an Irish household with Irish parents and a long stint in Ireland as an adult.

She read a wide selection from her book and it covered about twenty minutes.

I could tell by listening to the crowd’s response that it was a big hit. I enjoyed it immensely. Well done Theresa.

I understand Theresa has an art show in Henry Hudson Park this Saturday – her book cover is one of her works – so I recommend that anyone who missed the poetry reading stop by and catch her other artistic bent. You can also pick up a copy of TD’s book here:

It’s good to know that Riverdale remains a cultural oasis in my hometown.

Thanks Theresa, all those years ago, for supporting Ode To Murray Collins.

Well, it’s hump day, so we better get on it.

You fine, five readers get your skates on and attack the hill. Don’t forget to wave at Friday at its peak.

I need to go see a kitty about a cuddle

And then my rounds.

But I too will keep my eye out for Friday as I hit Wednesday’s apex.

It’s is going to be a New Moon on Friday the 13th.

So, whatever we do today, let’s make it a great one.

  1. Thanks for tuning in and for such a lovely write up. Old friends always come in close to support even though time and space separate us. Last night we went out to An Beal Bocht and thought there was a new or full moon energy.

  2. The Riverdale Clan seanchaí have to support each other. Good luck on the art show. I hope there was a good live turn out last night.
