Karl’s Kitchen Comes To The MOS Literary Bookshelf – Fey Girl Gets a 5 Star Review

Pamela Danzig, a Riverdalian connection, sent me this really cute book called Karl’s Kitchen that she co-authored. It has a bunch of healthy and easy to prepare recipes told through the mouths of a number of cats, including the main character, Karl the tuxedo cat. I could hear “Memories” playing in the background as I went through it. It is the perfect book to introduce youngsters to healthy food prep. Any young person would enjoy this.

Pam asked me to deliver the book to the MOS bookshelf, where her book now joins other Riverdalians’ works by me, Theresa Daly and Colin Broderick. Welcome Pam.

Speaking of books, now that I have gotten WTLLM to bed, I had the opportunity to start on my TBR pile and read the latest book of another member of the MOS Literary Bookshelf, called Fey Girl by S Kay Murphy (a Celtic cousin whom I affectionally refer to as “Sis”).

Now I am a believer in supporting other writers by posting Amazon reviews, so as soon as I finished I posted the following 5 Star review for Fey Girl:

“I loved everything about this book. First off, I know this is written for a younger reader, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying it. Loved all the characters – Deri, Sugar Plum/Hysss, Darby, Aunt Teagan, Mrs. Sullivan’s strays, the Kathleen, Julianna and I could even put up with the lonely and misunderstood Nathan. I loved Deri’s mom – AT – and Dad – JT – the roving Irish super-singer. I liked Ms. Confer, the choirmaster. I loved the Celtic mythology. I loved the way the Narrator constantly breaks the fourth wall to interact with the reader. Loved the Reginald Dwight, John Lennon and Randy Newman references (the last via Mrs. Sullivan). Ian the “artistic” brother cat whisperer. Hated the db sullivan stepson who caused the agro with the cat clean up and was looking to off Jewel/Seeoda. Glad AT handled him. And you couldn’t have a fey girl without the fae. And Halloween? And Vegetarian Lasagna? And kittens? I’m moving in! A delightful read. I highly recommend this for anyone old enough to read and young enough to dream. Well done SK Murphy.”

I reposted that review here because it takes Amazon forever to upload my reviews for some reason.

I could definitely see my grandchildren loving this book. Indeed, that looks like my granddaughter, Scarlett, on the cover.

If you know a young reader for whom you would would like to find the perfect gift this Christmas, or if you would enjoy a nice afternoon revisiting your childhood, I suggest you give Fey Girl a look:

Now Sis, I need you to inscribe my copy for the MOS Bookshelf.

The rest of the day was rather quiet. A crow stopped by to say hello (notice that those two gnomes were listening in),

and Claire and Honey had their siesta where the ley lines meet.

I also had a quick phone chat with Eileen Cotto (ne Collins), a ubiquitous character throughout The Claire Saga, who patiently put up with my desperate to speak with humans blathering before hustling me off the phone to deal with her very busy social calendar. Love you Eileen.

Finally, Lisa and I grabbed dinner at MOS and said hello to our friend, the adorable Jen the Asst. Manager (top photo) and some of the regulars, like my boy, Kyle Dooley, who is one of the characters in Finding Jimmy Moran, and also the face of my Books and Bevies ad for the same book (Thank you Kerry F. Freeman – whose debut novel, Sedona, drops on Wednesday 11/15/23 – highly recommend it):

It was the perfect way to wrap my Friday.

But now I have a busy Saturday before me. First, a visit by the Farrier Jason Bastemeyer, who will be stopping by to give the girls their mani-pedis.

Then I have my own clean up to attend to via an appointment with my dear friend Anna the Barber.

Then I need to get my weekly food prep done. Tomorrow will be the outdoor chores.

Well, I hope you fine, five readers have a productive Saturday morning, and that your afternoon is left for more leisurely pursuits, like reading.

Now, I’m going to head out and cuddle some kitties, then perform my rounds.

But no matter what else we have on the agenda, let us make today a great one.

  1. Tom, you are just amazing, brother!! Thank you for loving my Fey Girl, Deri! I love her, too! Most of all, thank you for always, always supporting other writers! If we were all supportive of each other—in all our endeavors—we would rock the world! Wait—did you feel that? I think we did shake it just a little. It’s the power of Claire! Rock on, brother!

  2. Good morning! Thanks for the shout-out. It’s always fun to chat with you.
Have a good day today…I hope it’s not too cold out snowy in your neck of the woods. The pic of Claire and Honey sleeping in the field gives the impression they are enjoying a beautiful calm day.
A visit from Farrier Jason always adds a like excitement to the day.
Only 2 more days until the great reveal!! Is your visit with Anna related to the reveal? She always does an amazing job cleaning you up, making you look years younger. Not that you would visit her for that reason🤣
