Now, I know none of you will admit it, but you all love the song, Iris, by the Goo Goo Dolls.
Well, my mom loved the flower that gives that song its name and we had a string of Irises along the top of the front wall at our home on Mosholu Avenue.
Spaghetti always looked after them to keep my Mom happy, and they continued to bloom each spring long after I was the oldest person living in the family home.
When we moved to Casa Claire, there were a couple of Volunteer Irises down in the backyard between where the original patio ended and the original placement of the work shed, by my retaining wall, sat.
I dug them up and m oved them to a small spot of high grass at the end of the JTS Grotto, by the gate between the side and front property. A place where Claire and Honey cannot get to them. Oddly enough, the hardy buggers started to be the first blossom in spring.
And yesterday was the Autumn Equinox. The energy vibrations were intoxicating.
So, while I have been wrapping up the gardening in the JTS Grotto, I noticed an advertisement for Free Irises. So I contacted “Jim” and scheduled a time to stop by his place, which, it turns out is just South West of where I’m located.
Jim is of my vintage and a really cool guy. A Renaissance Man who has done a lot of different interesting things in his life. An East Coaster by birth, a Mid Westerner by choice.
Born in Pennsylvania, he had travelled to each of the lower 48 before he was twenty.
Out of all of the places he visited, NoCo stole his heart.
He has had many interesting professions, including as the curator of a number of well known annual art exhibitions.
He and his wife live on a beautifully cultivated property where they have established the kind of randomly seated gardens that just invite you to sit and enjoy a cuppa joe among its energy and beauty.

Now at the back of that last patch, you can see a sprinkling of Irises just before the tall vegetation.
Indeed, Jim’s wife grows flowers for sale by local flower shops.
But it is all of Jim and his Wife’s creation.
I just soaked in the positive energy.
Anyway, Jim is renovating a spot along the opposite side of the large driveway, parking area, so he needed to move a large bed of Irises. So, he posted an add on FB to give them away to all comers, and I got lucky enough to grab a tray full.
I really didn’t feel like doing any more work at home, but given the history and mojo of these particular plants, I got out my gloves and spade and pulled all of the weeds and high grass by our Volunteer Irises and created a bed that incorporated them into this new batch of healthy stock.

Incorporating the earth that bound them in their original home with some rich potting soil as an anchoring end/show piece of the JTS Grotto. There to be enjoyed by all and eaten by none.
They looked like they’ve settled in

when I went out this morning for some grounding. Their was a mild rain to nurture them overnight.
My Mom is surely thrilled.
My back is surely sore from the process.
Thank you Jim, you are one cool dude.
With any luck, and lots of magic, I’m hoping the transplanted Irises will flourish in their new home forever.
Anyway, while I was out there toiling in my garden, I heard the distinct and rare sound of a chopper over head. I walked out to my drive and started watching it as it passed in three circles over Casa Claire. When I realized it was hanging around for more than a flyover, I waved and then started snapping photos.

It looked Military.

At that point, it took off and headed North West, the direction it came from.
I posted some video on my FB Page –https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CUDixnyBg/
Life imitating Art?! Read The Claire Saga. We know how that ends.
Stay tuned.
Anyway, what actually turned out to be a wonderful Monday is behind us. Let’s set our collective sights on the weekend.
You fine, five readers get that last cuppa joe in you and head off to complete whatever tasks your professions demand of you.
I have some legal work to attend to.
But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.

Sounds like you had an unusually engaging, wonderful Monday. I’m glad the Irises brought your Mom to the forefront of your mind with warm memories of your home back East. I imagine with your Mom on your mind it made doing the additional gardening (on a Monday) a little more of a pleasant rewarding task.
Everything looks so beautiful Tommy. I’m glad the Aleve helps ease your pain but remember even God rested on the 7th day.
