Inside Shoes – WTF?!

One of the surprise Christmas gifts my daughter gave me during our trip to Breckenridge last weekend, was the above pair of fuzz-lined Crocs.

The Tommy Pickles and Snoopy accessories were an added bonus.

Evidently, Jackie had gotten the memo from my post-retirement wife that I was no longer allowed to track the outside dirt and dust from my Greenacres chores into the interior of the house.

Can you imagine?! Do you think Oliver Wendall Douglas would put up with this shit?

And when I pushed back hard against the new regime on this point of contention and explained that I do not have pristine slip-on inside shoes, because I wear my interchangeable thousand pairs of rubber Birks all the time, inside and out, Lisa sent out the word to the other blood female in my direct family line, and Voila. First part of the problem is solved.

Et tu, Jackie?!

I’ll give them their due, they are cute and comfy. The Crocs, not the females.

My intransigent disinclination or the time to switch in and out of those shoes at the doorway are another set of animals entirely. I hate new rules. Fucking hate them!

I hate old rules too.

Maybe that is why I became a lawyer, to get around rules.

There is a reason for the idiom “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”

And I am the proverbial old dog. Bronx junk yard mutt.

Lisa constantly points out that my first response to try anything new is a barking “No!”

As a matter of fact, the only things I will say “yes” to as a knee jerk reaction are ice cream, apple pie and sex.

Well, it turns out that under the new post-retirement regime, if I want to say yes when I want to say yes, I better say yes when I want to say no.

I will miss my nos.

But as I said, the fuzzy Crocs are cute and comfy.

So, there now is apple pie in the fridge, and ice cream in the freezer.

And I occasionally get to leave my new Crocs by the bed.

Did I ever stand a chance?

Oh, and Lisa got a personalized gift from Jackie as well, hand made by my daughter, which I make sure Blue gets lots of use out of.

Passive aggression can be the most satisfying.

Well, today is another new day in the new year under the new post-retirement regime. The first Hump Day of 2024.

I have my kitties to cuddle and rounds to make.

You fine, five readers slip out of your inside shoes and put on your work shoes. But don’t over due it. The weekend is almost here.

And whatever we do, let us make today a great one.

  1. Dear Mr. Mc Caffery,

My husband and I read your blog about inside shoes, which feels totally relatable to our funny bones, in real life, time.
    Thank you for that.
My husband and I are readers, my husband is a reading fanatic. I try to keep him in books since he seems to fidget around the house if he doesn’t have something to put words formed into stories into his brain.
The type of writing he is drawn to, the kind that can steal him away for those few precious hours of time he carves out of each day, can be hard to come by.
This little blog peaked his interest.
I followed the link to Amazon to purchase the Clair Trilogy, in paperback, because although he does listen to blogs and stories in his ears nearly constantly, he still has a strong appreciation for holding the book in his hands, as do I.
When I followed the link, it shows the trilogy, but not a way to purchase them together, only separately.
Just wondering if that is by design, to only purchase separately and not as a bundle?
Perhaps seems like a simple question, however others may think they are getting the trilogy when in fact they would only be delivered one of your books, which I gather from the blogs I’ve read so far and the reviews, must be filled with fantastic contents.
Then there are those who may not purchase when they see the trilogy is not available as a bundle.
Just a thought or two, to share and again to thank you for the entertainment of “Inside Shoes” delightfully connecting and again, relatable, in more than one sense. Very much appreciated.

    Great start to the day!
