Holy Shit, It Worked – Well Done Yanks

Need I say more.

Well, so far Robin Roberts book is extremely interesting.

Like me, AM grew up in an Irish American home as the middle child. She had cops in her family (her grandfather) and the family was generationally steeped in Celtic folklore and believed in the paranormal. We are both members of the SFWA. Later in life, AM became an Irish citizen – I and my siblings also obtained dual citizenship as adults – and “back home” AM built a very cool house and guest facilities called Dragonhold-Underhill on forty-plus acres where she also raised horses. Dragonhold because Anne’s dragon stories paid for the home, and Underhill because the house was built in the carved out area of the side of the hill on the property. Note that AM built a heated barn for those horses. Creature comfort first and foremost.

I am extremely jealous of the level of writing success that has allowed AM to create such luxury for her horses. Hollywood, are you listening?! Claire has been reading my mind and her new barn just doesn’t level up!

But given that I was up really early on Tuesday, I was extremely tired last night, so I went to bed without getting too deep into the book.

Lisa fell asleep watching the game downstairs with Smokey the feral cat keeping her company

and didn’t wake me when she came up to bed. Note, that is the same look Lisa threw me when I grabbed my book and headed up to the Tower.

I learned the good news on my computer after feeding Claire and Honey this morning.

But there were other interesting omens yesterday that suggested that something mystically major was in the works at Casa Claire.

First off, my very paranormally gifted daughter, Jackie, sent my lovely wife a dozen beautiful black roses for Halloween, which also evoked my canny publisher.

Then our regular murder of black crows spent a lot of the day yesterday hanging around the back yard, with their leader watching from the back deck, enjoying the caw-cus.

And, finally The Three Witches looked spectacularly spooky as I was returning from an evening food run.

Timing is everything.

Without getting too cocky with any superstitious impact my actions may have had on yesterday’s sporting outcome, I can only promise that I will continue reading my way through the remainder of the World Series.

I am reminded of a joke my father liked to tell about two friends, a priest and rabbi, who attended a prize fight featuring a young Irish Catholic’s shot at the title. It was the rabbi’s first live boxing event and he excitedly studied everything he witnessed in the ring leading up to the fight, peppering his collared companion with lots of questions. When the warning buzzer rang, the rabbi watched as the cornerman removed the stool and slid between the ropes while the Irish Catholic challenger stood and blessed himself with the sign of the cross as he waited for the starting bell.

“Will that help him win?” the rabbi asked.

“Yes, if he has a good right cross.” The priest responded.

So, you see, as captured in the potentially apocryphal words of the storied coach, Sam Mussabini, as told to the hungry and talented runner, Harold Abrahams, in the wonderful film Chariots of Fire, “You can’t put in what God left out.”

So, let’s hope that God put a lot more heart into the Bronx Bombers. They have all the rest of the physical skills they need to pull off a World Series comeback. I believe in you Judge. Fingers crossed. I can read about it tomorrow.

But either way, there was no West Coast sweep. And I’ll take that to the bank.

Well, it is the day before my favorite holiday – Mischief Night for those that pay attention – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_Night – so I am naturally, really excited.

For you fine, five readers, just know how much I appreciate any paranormal support you may wish to throw behind the Bronx Bombers, even if it’s only wearing your baseball hats backwards as a rally cap, in an effort to perform this rational scientific experiment, to see if it is a repeatable outcome.

Quantum physics is the new magic.

I now need to go out and cuddle some kitties – thanking my feral familiar Smokey for keeping Lisa company last night and asking for a repeat paranormal appearance.

Then my rounds.

But no matter who wins this evening, let us all get out there and make today a great one.

    1. I must then assume that Renee’s ND corresponds in that moniker with the Rockland County crowd. “It is known as ‘Gate Night’ in Bay City (Michigan), Rockland County (New York), North Dakota and South Dakota.”

  1. I loved them from afar last night, too. Here’s hoping for another great day/night. 👍🏻👍🏻
