Yesterday was one of those absolutely magical days. It started when the last of this lunar cycle’s Crescent Moon
surrendered to one of the most wondrous sunrises I’ve seen in a while.
Which left the Three Witches watching vigilantly over Casa Claire.
Then I spotted these two cute fox kits playing in a field on my rounds.
which was an unexpected treat.
Claire and Honey were in excellent form upon my return.
And later, my most witchy gran, Scarlett, brought me some interesting reading from the local library, along with a snack she had baked.
So, of course, after gobbling down the snack, a delicious piece of pound cake, I read Merlin’s tome carefully.
And learned a thing or two on wand whittling.
Perfect timing, since we are now in the New Moon and I can always use a new wand.
Then I went to check on the elves that guard the Giant’s Causeway, only to find that they had taken the holiday weekend off without so much as a “bye your leave.”
Well, I still had my dynamic duo out front by the Old Man, keeping an eye on Casa Claire.
I did get to watch the adult Blue Jays that live in Jack The Spruce teaching one of their fledglings how to master its wings. Unfortunately, I did not have my iPhone (it was charging) and I was caught up in the drama of watching it flutter down from the heights of its nest in JTS to the ground below The Old Man, and then responding to the coaching from its parents as it leapt up to my chair, then to the netting on the trough, then to the ladder, then up through and to the highest branches of the tree where its parents called to it.
Once there, it followed the first and preceded the second of it’s parent’s glides across the front property, landing back in the lower branches of JTS, where it then made its way safely upwards, limb by limb, to its nest.
And at the end of the day, I thought to myself, what a wonderful country I live in that allows me to accumulate such simple blessings and enjoy such natural beauty with such unbounded freedom.
So, Happy Birthday America. Thanks for being here.
Never, ever surrender the ideals and freedom that make us the greatest country that has ever existed.
Well, now I must exercise my freedom to go cuddle some kitties and make my rounds. Maybe I’ll see those foxes again.
You fine, five readers ease into this day of family, friends, fireworks, flags and freedom to do anything else you would like. Just harm none.
Maybe read a book?! Something magical perhaps.
But no matter what else you get up to, take a moment to appreciate what you have, and make today a great one.

Happy Fourth to all in Berthoud… and beyond…π₯ππ£πΊπΈπ―
Petey, for some reason, every 4th of July, I always remember your stories about your Dad with his flag waving and John Philip Sousa playing in your yard.
Yep. Either in our backyard at Crooked Hill Road or on his deck at Spray Beach, Dad and his great friend, Bob “Siggy” Signor would fly their flags and serenade the neighbors with a full day of Sousa marches, etc. Great memories!
