Yes, I know this is a title to a wonderful spiritual song originally published by John Wesley Work, Jr. and a novel by James Baldwin.
However, it was what I whispered as I watched three generations of the family pull out of my driveway yesterday morning on their way to hike the local peaks. And, like with all good spirituals, I felt it in my soul.
You see, my family knows they will never get me to travel into the mountains, so seeing it was a beautiful day yesterday, the always intrepid Luke led his beautiful wife and family, and his equally intrepid mother, on a high elevation hike.
I begged off by citing my never ending list of chores. Like cleaning and refilling that front trough.
With that wonderful netting I have inserted that keeps the smaller animals from falling in and drowning.
While I waited, I was serenaded by the Old Man’s overhead chimes,
while having my feet grounding in the energy rich earth beneath the wonderful old tree from whom all other Casa Claire Cotten woods arise.
And then I went around checking on the fur family, who, like me, all seemed to be enjoying the quiet.
And then I went indoors and inscribed a set of books for Allisa and Jimmy Duthie, dear Canadian based friends of Pete “Buck” Sheridan.
And throughout the day I received photographic updates from the explorers.
including an interesting combination of hobbit and elven genes.
And a beautiful lake which may or may not contain some sunken cars.
So, a great day was had by all.
And now Monday is again upon us. But given that the work week behind it is truncated by the 4th of July Holiday on Thursday (and Friday), it’s lost some of its mojo.
So, you fine, five readers, let’s get out there and pay Monday no heed. Get what you need to get done, done. No more, no less.
Me, I’m going to cuddle some kitties and make my rounds.
But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
