Getting Closer

Ten days out from Samhain (pron. Sow-in) and while I was out on a hay run to Longmont, I happen to spot some particularly cool decorations.

The opening shot is the Jeepers Creepers Scarecrow on 287 I mentioned in yesterday’s blog. I’m amazed that I managed to snap a salvageable photo of it at 50 mph.

Given that opening film clip, that’s about as slow as I wanted to pass it.

However, these others on County Road 4 were far more docile.

I will do my best to look for others over the next few days, but as I was on a mission which required I get shit done while I was at my pre-noon prime energy level, I couldn’t dally as I still had to shift ten bales of hay from my Toyota to C&H’s barn back at Casa Claire.

Speaking of spotting things, yesterday I spotted a distinct improvement in my left eye, while at the same time noticing the same weird precursor look and feeling I had felt in it last Thursday, only now that feeling was in my right eye.

I haven’t seen both lids look like this since I was in the Golden Gloves back in the mid-70s.

Luckily, I knew what I was dealing with, so Lisa just patiently applied the same prescription ointment to both eyes. (Note – I hate anything being placed in my eyes.) Watching TV then felt like I was staring through frosted glass, but that was only temporary. The good news is that the eyes themselves have not been affected. Just the lids.

However, I need to try and reduce the Quasimodo effect before this afternoon, as I intend to attend a Fort Collins event for creatives.

I may need to wear shades, so I don’t frighten the locals.

In the meantime, I’ll try the recommended alternating cold and hot compresses. Fingers crossed. Worst case scenario, I can make the decision to pull the attendance plug by 2 pm. Stay tuned.

When it rains it pours, medically, this year at Casa Claire. This latest fly in the ointment got me thinking about how much I rely on my colorblind eyes to interpret the real and mystical world around me – and how much I take that visual sense for granted.

I’m pretty sure I don’t have John Milton’s non-visual determination. (I’m still working on the talent bit.)

Easter Egg: For those of you who have read the RAC of Spark of Faith, the reference to the college paper “In Defense of Satan in Paradise Lost,” is based upon a real paper I wrote at Fordham University before I got the hook. I really did feel like Lucifer got the short end of the stick in that story line.

Tough Choices: Promoting Internally vs. Hiring Externally – RockIt Careers

The paper was a hit with my freshman literature professor – I got an A. Unfortunately, my mischievously rambunctious personality did not fare as well. But I digress. . .

These recent medical curve balls, though relatively insignificant, provide all the more reason and lend additional urgency to my need to keep writing because you just never know what’s coming. As JM pondered, “Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?”

Definitely intend to start a new project next spring.

Well, enough about me. The good news, my fine, five readers, is that today is again Tuesday. Maligned Monday is in your rearview mirror. Friday is that much closer. You’ve got this.

So, finish that final cuppa, pull up your socks and head out to slay the work-week dragon. Put a real effort into all the creativity and heavy lifting in whatever project you have been assigned. Trust me, staying a little late on Tuesday means leaving a little earlier on Friday.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
