The Wise Novelist

Frozen In The Summer

My grans are huge Disney fans. It’s genetic. I remember watching The Magical World of Disney every Sunday night of my childhood. It helped me develop what has turned out to be a pretty active imagination. It also helped me stave off the inevitable Monday blues until late Sunday night.

I am especially pleased that present Disney narrative fare include some badass female characters, like princesses Anna and Elsa (Agnarrsdatter or Idunasdatter, depending who you ask).

The real family Fairy Godmothers, Veronica and ‘b,’ hooked their Great Nieces up with some wonderful seats for the Denver based Broadway Musical yesterday afternoon, on the condition that they also come to brunch and dinner at their beautiful Denver home, before and afterwards. The girls got all dolled up in character for the event, right down to matching nail polish. Scarlett donned the Anna look, while Savanna and Stella went for the Elsa look, and then they all took some outside photos in my sisters’ reclaimed silver baron home’s side garden,

Luke had some potential work related matters to attend to, so Georgie and Lisa played chaperone to the little princesses first Broadway musical. I was quite happy to haunt Casa Claire all by myself. The quiet was pleasantly deafening.

The girls had a wonderful time, and Lisa, an old hand at New York Broadway productions, reported that the musical was first rate. The magic of storytelling.

You see, the family is quite happy to encourage the three grans’ strong belief in magic. It works for me.

Someday, I’m hoping little girls around the world will be dressing up as Scarlett’s, Savanna’s and Stella’s characters from The Claire Saga. Talk about magic. Disney, are you listening?!

Well today is one of those getaway days. Businesses, other than the services industries, to the extent they are open at all, are working on a skeleton crew basis. To those of you that are traveling today, take heed of yesterday’s blog suggestion and download that free copy of The Wise Ass in Amazon Kindle to help transport your imagination along with your body to wherever you are going. There are lots of wonderful characters to lose yourself with.

Let me make it easy on you.

There you go.

Claire is much cuter than the reindeer, Sven.

Well, dawn approaches so I must flee.

But first some kitties to cuddle and rounds to make.

I hope you fine, five readers are already where you need to be before this great country’s 248th Birthday arrives tomorrow.

On behalf of all of the animals, wild and domestic, let’s try and limit the expected fireworks to fizzles, whistles and skyward colorful and glittering pops, and keep the percussion bombs to a minimum. That will also help keep the ERs throughout our country from being overwhelmed with firework related injuries. Many an eye, hand and ear canal are injured on this holiday by well intentioned amateurs.

Family, friends and neighbors otherwise await the joy of celebrating our beautiful experiment in Democracy how you see fit. Have at it. Pools, beaches, parks and barbeques. Freedom.

Find a chaise lounge and curl up with a good book while you await that next meal.

But, no matter what we get up to, let us make today a great one.

  1. The girls look absolutely adorable. What a wonderful experience their Fairy Godmothers have treated them to. To experience live theater and a magical story that captivates their imagination is a memory that I’m sure they’ll never forget. I can only imagine that even the chaperones, Lisa and Georgie, now have another lifetime memory to add to the treasure of memories they have with those 3 beautiful little fairies.

  2. When I was there, you told me those precious girls were ferrel, and now I see that they in reality are true princesses. Must be some of that magical transformation!
