Family Events

Got to attend a Colorado family event yesterday. My beautiful grans and lovely DIL were there. My two sisters, v&b, were there, Lisa was there. Everyone else was either traveling, working or otherwise unavailable. My grans and their bows stole the show.

Unfortunately, I am under a blood oath to not write about it publicly.

And yes, it is killing me.

But I will weave hints.

Just know that, family wise, it was the highlight of the year so far.

It was a very long day. Hot. Over an hour away and I got lost coming home. Well, as lost as you can get taking the wrong tine of a fork in the road, followed by a few impulsive turns using the same degraded male navigational skills that failed me at the fork, accompanied by an f-bomb soliloquy, until the lilting and calming voice of your wife’s iPhone GPS re-routs you to a Western stretch of smaller roadways that, like with Rome, all lead past Colorado’s version of Stratford upon Avon back to Casa Claire.

Felt like a time warp.

My CC creatures were flummoxed that I was not around for most of the day to cater to their every need. Even the Fae were mischievous. God forbid this Bard gets a day off.

Don’t worry, I had laid out all of the necessary provisions before I left, but Claire and Honey were foot stomping for their veggie dinner.

Indeed, they had gone into the old barn and toppled the stacks of hay bales in protest to my extended absence.

Smokey and Bandit were more forgiving because I got home before the late afternoon thunderstorms rolled in, which were very impressive in sound and fury. As long as they could perform their very heavy group hug in the recliner at the celestial clarion call, all was well. At least for them.

Age and heat make days like this exhausting. But it was worth it.

I slept like the proverbial log. Dreaming of bagpipes.

But today is Saturday here at Casa Claire, so that means weekend chores. And I must get to them before the Sun finds its footing and starts to bake NoCo.

My weather watch app promises thunderstorms throughout the day, which always complicates things.

So, I better get to it.

I hope you fine, five readers get your weekend errands knocked on their head before noon, and that the rest of your weekend is free to enjoy some summer fun.

If the weather turns inhospitable, find that comfy chair and let The Claire Saga take you somewhere you’ve never been before all the while staying within blinking distance from the fridge and the bathroom.

But, no matter what else we get up to today, let us make it a great one.

Speaking of yesterday, It was Mark and Sara’s wedding anniversary.

God bless the Blue, in any family, wherever they serve.

And Happy Birthday sweet Sara.

  1. No matter how rugged and gruff you portray yourself, I see a sentimental, soft-hearted father/grandfather/husband throughout your blog. (I promise, I won’t tell a soul)

    1. Why must all women be soooo discerning? Thank God I can still fool the men. Unfortunately, they are only a small percentage of my readership.

  2. Am I the only one that wants to know why you are sworn to secrecy? I thought the fam didn’t read your blog….. 😉

    1. Yes, but the family knows everyone else reads it and there are some things they don’t want shared.
