Spring springs early this year. The Vernal Equinox can normally fall between March 19th and 22nd of any given year.
An equinox is an “equal night” – same length across the globe – that happens twice a year in the Spring and Fall. In the Northern Hemisphere, the earth shift its tilt towards the sun.
The Pagans refer to it as Ostara, named after the pagan goddess, Eostre, first worshipped by the Anglo-Saxons in Southern England. It is a time of the earth’s rebirth and renewal.
It incorporates most of the same pagan practices the Catholics celebrate on Easter – dying eggs, chocolate bunnies, spring flowers.
I like to burn an intention candle, to cover all basis.
Some people like to balance an egg on the Equinox.
The naysayers will swear it can be done on any other day as well. I say, prove it.
Yesterday was a beautiful day to end the winter season. Claire and Honey spent most of it out front – the high ground being less mucky – sampling the early spring grass.
Although they did return to the back property in the late afternoon – for their siesta.
And some late afternoon grazing.
I spent yesterday getting Casa Claire’s main drainage pipe unclogged. Larry and Stephen from Berthoud based Jones’ Plumbing – shop local – make an annual pilgrimage out to clear out the central drainage pipe exiting the house.
Luckily, since it has become a bit of an annual tradition, they know exactly where to go and what to do, so it takes no time at all.
And I shared a brief conversation about the matter afterwards with my local crow representative, who likes to stay on top of the family gossip. He then shares it with his murder, and any other creature on Casa Claire. Information is power.
I often post my crow conversations on my FB page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091444194790
Now this Spring will give birth to my latest novel, Where The Ley Lines Meet, which drops on April 16th.
I’m hoping the beautiful weather is a harbinger of literary success for the last(?) book in The Claire Saga.
If any of you fine, five readers haven’t gotten up to speed on the first four books, you may want to get on it, since you can now binge, but don’t want to rush, the now complete experience in time to embrace this book of revelations. Twenty-six days left, but who’s counting?
I know, March Madness is competing for your free time, but I promise that the best way to salve a busted bracket is to get lost with Claire, Jimmy, Gina and the motley crew – the latest incarnation of which includes the newest non-human wonder – Fergus the Jack Russell – in a storyline that brings the magic into your everyday world. No schooling required. You really don’t want to be the last one around the virtual water cooler to learn how this action packed story ends. Or does it?
The good news is that Monday is again behind us.
Tuesday through Thursday are the most productive days of the conventional work week.
So, let’s take care of business, shall we?
You fine, five readers have that final cuppa and go slay the dragons (don’t really, I’m fond of dragons). I’m going to get out there and cuddle some kitties and make my rounds. I’m sure there will be lots of questions about my latest plumbing project from the creatures along the way.
Speaking of making magical rounds, for those of you that are into incredible music, I must recommend that you all try and sample the latest EP of the young artist Raffaella – LIVE, RAFF, LOVE (ACT II).
Raff is not only talented and beautiful, but she’s clever. You come away from her performance dissecting her lyrics the way you would try to appreciate the taste of a delicious meal. Each discovered ingredient enlightens your palate. Don’t miss this feast.
Well, I need to get a move on.
No matter what we all get to this first day of Spring, let us make it a great one.

you are a plethora of information this morning Tom. From the rites to spring to the plumbing issues…. preventive maintenance is the best maintenance.
hoping for warmer weather to be bestowed on us here on Long Island soon.
Have a great day and always regards to Lisa.
Spring has spring and with it we have a beautiful sunshine morning although it’s still chilly at 34 degrees.
I’m happy that Claire and Honey are finding some grass to enjoy while allowing the sun to shine on the backs. And yes the word “murky” is very descriptive of the ground and I truly hope that it’s cold wet feel is uncomfortable enough for you to be wearing shoes! If nothing else, wearing shoes outside and removing them at the doorway will keep your basement/office cleaner a little bit longer. As we all know cleaning is not your favorite way to spend a day.
26 days and counting Woo-hoo!!
Have a great day Tommy!
