Sunday is God’s day to rest.
Obviously a perk just for the perfect creatures on this plane, or the Omnipotent, because while Casa Claire is as close to Eden as I may get, there is always something here for this imperfect creature to deal with. Even on Sunday.
Yesterday was a water day. Trees, bird baths, fountains and troughs all needed liquid replenishment.
I don’t normally pay too much attention to the trees on the west side of the house, given that it serves more as a passage from back to front, but as I was watering yesterday I got to notice the new and unusual.
For the new, Spaghetti’s mini apple orchard is finally beginning to bear fruit.
Spotted maybe six potential apples so far as my four year return on investment. A nice surprise seeing that I had just about given up on them ever producing.
More intriguing was the unusual finding that one of the gnarly old trees in a copse of cottonwood that borders the Giants Causeway – that Claire and Honey basically use as back scratchers – has morphed into a clothing tree. Like the Charlie Brown Kite Eating Tree, this particular cottonwood seems to gather wind blown articles of clothing.
First there was Helen LaLousis’ “Billy The Bull” Hat. Billy is an anti-bullying mascot that Helen turned into a wonderful children’s book.
Proud to see that Billy has established himself at Casa Claire after being blown off my head on the other side of the property during a windstorm.
And then one of my wife’s shoes found its way into the same tree. It was part of a pair she left on the side deck so as not to track in some snow this past winter.
Not sure where the other one went. The wind here is astounding.
Now, just by chance that the apparel ended there at the hands of tree elves, I made sure not to disturb the clothing tree. Maybe the wind will add to the summer collection.
When I later showed the articles to my gran – Scarlett – she remarked without prompting that the shoe looks like it would make a great bed for some tree elf. Enough said.
As Wayne Dyer said, “when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Speaking of grans, the girls used part of the beautiful day to enjoy some time frolicking in Skyclad.
With their guardian Blue, always hanging on the perimeter.
So, if you put aside the hose dragging, muffin shoveling, and lifeguarding, comparably speaking, yesterday was restful.
But today Monday rears its ugly head, so I must get a move on.
Before I sign off, I’m giving a shout out to my older brother, Eddie (yep, that one) who is undergoing an emergent cardiac procedure this morning. Got his candle burning. Expecting a positive outcome.
I made sure to call him in his hospital room last night and give him as much shit as possible. The blackest of humor. No sacred cows. Lots of laughs at our respective expense. Go n-รฉirรญ leat.
You fine, five readers get that last of the morning coffee down the hatch and head out there into this crazy world to keep your lives on track.
I’m going to cuddle some kitties and make my rounds.
No matter what else lands on our plates today, let us make it a great one.
