Yesterday morning started with a face spa day visit to my favorite barber, Anna (Kaye Martinez-Hernandez), at the Rose Salon right next to the Berthoud Post Office.
I’m adding a face spa day requirement to any offer of heaven or I’m not going. (Of course, hell just won’t be hell if they offer a face spa day, will it?!)
Anna and I spent the time discussing all things in heaven and earth that are dreamt of in our philosophy. Anna is a great listener and conversationalist.
Plus, I always end up astral projecting, to the point where, as Anna lifts the warm towel covering my eyes, just before she sits me back up in the barber chair, she has come to say, “Welcome back.”
Indeed, as I was leaving the shop I spotted the younger man who always seems to have the slot right after mine and so I asked if he also schedules his visits for every three weeks, and he said, “No, I come weekly.”
In all fairness he not only had the makings of a beard but also a full head of hair.
It did not keep me from jealously coveting his luck and his need for a more decadently regular sprucing up. Youth is wasted on the young.
I have learned to ask Anna to book the next visit at the time I leave the shop, and she sends me a follow up text confirming the next available 9 a.m. slot within a few days of three to four weeks out.
Anna books quickly and weeks in advance, so you have to lock in that reservation or you are screwed. Anna does not take walk-ins, but she will offer to put you on a waitlist for any openings that pop up due to cancellations. I even made sure I booked for Friday September 20th, 9 a.m., just to ensure I get topped off before that Berthoud Literary festival that weekend and my trip back East the following week for a reading at An Beal Bocht Cafe in the Bronx and the Cardinal Spellman HS Class of 74 50th Reunion (Honorary Member).
Looking human for the day, I made the best of it by shopping among the humans for Claire and Honey’s fruits and veggies and then spent the next few hours hard at prep work.
The lemonade and yogurt are mine. Blue’s fresh food is also crammed in the Creatures’ Fridge. The rest is shared among my equines and those on my rounds.
Later, Lisa and I gave Scarlett a Dragon Journal that Lisa had bought from the Lighthouse Book Store on Pearl Street in Boulder.
Scarlett has demonstrated a proclivity for writing and a brilliantly vivid imagination, so we wanted to feed that talent with hopes she eclipses her grandfather and father as a successful writer someday in the not so distant future.
She is sure to give JK Rowling a run for her money.
Given that I have scheduled the outdoor work for today, yesterday afternoon was spent helping out with the mountain of laundry three children generate while their parents kept them busy and out of the house. I am happy to say I have not lost my touch and can wash, dry and fold with the best of them.
But those outdoor chores will include the added fun of mowing the front, roadside stretch, which due to its natural dip is always a challenge, but we need to provide Old Glory with a nice presentation platform on the Memorial Day Holiday.
Of course, Claire and Honey will continue to take care of the grass within the fenceline, so that’s a blessing.
Well, the sun also rises, so I better get a move on.
You fine, five readers have the guilt free option of treating today as a the Lord’s mandated day of rest, so make sure you make the most of it with some fun, friends and family. Watch the Rangers at 3pm Eastern, and take some time to read a good book, or two.
I’m heading out to cuddle those kitties and make my rounds.
And no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
