Yesterday had that autumn chill in it right from the moment I went out to feed Claire and Honey. I felt it through my sweatshirt. Still not cool enough to trade in my bare foot Birks for sneakers, but my toes registered the change.
It was cool enough for Blue to wrap herself in her favorite couch blanket, which accompanied her when she followed me out to refill the bird bath. She never lets me go out on my own. Yes, it was her best impression of Obi-Wan.
Jack The Spruce always enjoys the fall, with its regular breezes that allow its jewelry to summon the fairies with constant tinkling and bells.
My murder of cawing crows stopped by to check on me.
The Bee Honey-Soup Kitchen has remained at capacity even though the weather is turning.
And Claire came by to collect her tithe.
But because it was Friday the 13th, and since its been incredibly windy lately, our beautiful flag paid the price when a wind gust tore its plastic base from its moorings on the fence post and sent Old Glory across the front yard. Looked like one of those Italian Flag tossing contests.

But Lisa was off yesterday and went right out and purchased an industrial strength metal base, and sent me out to return OG to its OG status. The really nice thing about this metal base, is that it is adjustable, so the flag pole doesn’t have to remain at 45 degrees.
Men should be that lucky.
Anyway, it was a beautiful day. A Friday. And I was glad nothing really horrible rose to the 13th level of of my already substantial superstition. Thank the stars.
And today is Saturday. But today is spa-day for me. I get to visit my favorite Barber – Anna – and let her work her magic on this very retro face.
True, it’s lipstick on a pig, but I recently read on a FB post that pigs experience 1/2 hour long organisms, thank you the mystical Katherine Glass for that information, so sign me up.

When I get back I will have my chores, but I will be a new man (if only for a few hours).
But first, my kitty cuddle and my rounds.
You fine, five readers engage this autumn Saturday and get outdoors.
Feel the crispness in the air. Let your spine shake that chill running along it.
Smell the leaves. Go to a high school or college football game.
Then go back in your home and let the warmth sink in.
Grab a book, or watch a movie. Share a meal. Live.
But most of all, make today a great one.
