Adios CLE, It’s Been Fun.

Yesterday was a Hallmark Day. I watched the very last Continuing Legal Education video I will ever watch in this lifetime. And shortly afterwards filed my very last “active” Attorney Biannual Registration before I finally close the door forever and file a much cheaper “retired” registration in two years.

You see, I decided to remain vestigially “active” as a licensed attorney one last period so that each day for the next two years I can practice law legally but will intentionally choose not to. It will be in this ability to make a daily choice where I will find my creative inspiration. You never want to do things by default.

No, from now on this Old Fucker is just choosing to be a writer.

The above are screenshots of me performing an impromptu dance celebrating that final moment. What can I say, when the spirit moves you, you bust a move.

Speaking of being an Old Fucker, I commemorated my psychological professional transition by going on-line and purchasing not one, but two Old Fuckers Club Hats – Black and Blue – which I cannot wait to wear proudly each and every day.

I was going to buy the ring, but I hate wearing rings.

Lisa commemorated this monumental transitional event by stepping out and purchasing a very interesting conversation piece for the Living room. As an acknowledgment of my very Celtic heritage, she selected what was once a potato box that would sit in a farmer’s kitchen and turned it into an interesting stand to go between our recliners.

She assured me that it matched the new decor, furniture and the dogs.

I was just pleased that it came with a fairy door to occupy the grans when they visit. I will tell them that this is where the Fae will stay during inclement weather.

It also creates more physical space between the grans’ relaxing Nona and The Dude – familiarity breeds contempt – and allows plenty of room for cups and snack plates when the urchins are in the television thrones without the devolution into territorial skirmishes where a lesser piece of furniture has tipped and toppled.

The piece brings great energy into the space and Lisa assures me this is really the final purchase (at least for that room). And after all, she puts up with my whimsical eccentricities in the outdoor areas.

Then, for the final few hours of the first and last business day of the week leading up to my favorite holiday, I binged watched Steven King’s It chapters 1 and 2. Bill Istvan Günther Skarsgård did an amazing job in the role of Pennywise (although Tim Curry was no slouch in the original), and I thought SK’s cameo in Chapter 2 was fun. I was inspired to watch these two films by the rapidly approaching spooky holiday on Friday and by an article I recently read in Lit Hub Magazine.

Literary Hub » Bestsellers to Blockbusters: Stephen King Reflects on the Adaptations of His Work

Look forward to working a cameo or two into The Claire Saga when the time comes. And it will.

Okay, with that final legal professional obligation out of the way, it’s time I start to prep for the next chapter. Literally and figuratively.

I have scheduled most of the next three days to allow for my total immersion in the conceptual storyline so that I can sit down on Friday and instruct the elves to start typing.

Let’s hope the creative minds floating in the Field

The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe: Lynne McTaggart: 9780061435188: Amazon.com: Books

who have been so helpful to this scribe in the past, click one more time on my creative channel and, like Rumpelstiltskin, turn flax into gold.

No going back now.

You fine, five readers suck down your cuppas and launch into the meat of the workweek. Tuesdays have always been available for the heavy lifting in professional projects. The more you get done on a Tuesday, the easier the remainder of the week becomes and the more likely that Friday will remain available to launch you into the weekend. So, get to it.

And no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.

  1. I don’t know why I am up this early. Too many “retired” naps yesterday, I suppose. I like the potato box. I am certain that I heard the term “potato box” when I was a kid but perhaps didn’t know or appreciate what it was until now. Have a great day, Tom.

  2. You are a writer. You write. Writing is what you do. (just sharing my morning affirmations–seemed appropriate.) Congrats on turning over new leaves and not old boxes.

  3. Congratulations!! You’re going to love the extra time to devote to your family both 2 legged and 4 along with searching deep inside your creative energies to continue to develop storylines that engage and inspire! Oh and maybe get some sleep!! Love to Lisa and kudos to an amazing choice of gift to commemorate this momentous occasion!

  4. I’ll miss the blog but I’m so happy for you. Enjoy not working as an attorney and focusing on your calling!
