Finally

Today could not have come soon enough.

Our darling Gran, Scarlett – yes from The Claire Saga – will lead her two sisters, Savanna and Stella – ditto – as the guests of honor at Scarlett’s Birthday Fete at Casa Claire.

Yesterday was spent by me doing a final color touch up – ironic isn’t it – to the entry way through the Jack The Spruce Grotto.

Of course, it wasn’t without its contretemps, as Lisa was certain that I should employ a leaf blower, rather than use the old McCaffrey standard – a broom – to clear the area of the collected dust and leaves and twigs that I normally step over and usually keeps the Jehovah Witnesses away from the front door.

I hate leaf blowers. The sound is annoying, you breath in half the shit that’s blowing around and its like performing heart surgery with a chain saw. Choice words were exchanged, before I stormed off to Home Depot to select flowers on pure color chance and she huffed off to pick up balloons and to get the stitches out of her ear. Saved me a potential trip to the dump, because I didn’t have any time to dig another hole.

Anyway, by the time Lisa returned I was done – on so many levels – but on the aesthetic one it actually turned out pretty nice.

I just went to the “Perennials” table in HD and started filling my flatbed with all of the flowers Lisa would never allow me to buy in the past because she said they never last and are too expensive.

I selected the Lavender as a representation of the always protective Muse in The Claire Saga. I figured I may need the extra help after being so daring.

In the end, it turned out okay, and if the flowers last through the end of the summer, it was worth the trouble, and will make the venue for Scarlett’s party just a little prettier and a lot more magical.

Of course, if the very expensive flowers don’t sprout next spring, I’ve got a season of prolific “told you so” to look forward to.

I also went to Berthoud Pizza yesterday afternoon to face-to-face place an order for 8 family sized pizzas – we called them “Large” in Da Bronx – double sliced so I can feed the urchins without tossing out half slices found littered all over the property. I told the very accommodating young man behind the counter in my thickest Bronx accent that he “better not fuck up the order or I’m bringing the little bastards to your shop and let you deal with them.”

Pretty sure he giggled, nervously, as I left the shop.

But now I need to go out and grab bags of ice and a bouquet of flowers, and then drop the Beagle Brothers at The Dog Ranch daycare and spa, and then deal with the delivery and placement of the bouncy castle/water slide and vacuum the pool and a whole list of other fun Honey Do items. So I have to get a move on.

I will clear the party site at 3 pm with a threatening declaration that I must retrieve my man-eating hounds so don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!

I hope you fine, five readers have a far more restful day on your respective agenda.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
