Today, I feel a bit anxious. Sort of the same way I used to feel when I was taking any or all of my kids for an interview at some private school back East.
However today feels even more important. Today I take Smokey and Bandit.

for an on sight interview with the people who run The Dog Ranch,

which is this really nice facility just off 287, about five minutes away from Casa Claire, where I can bring the Beagle Brothers for a day of socialization with other dogs. They also do overnight boarding. While they are being evaluated this morning, I am also having them bathed and given mani-pedis, so I don’t have to do it, and possibly clip a nail too close to the wick. One stop shopping.
I really hope they behave themselves, and not let their recently but deeply ingrained McCaffrey show.
You see, given that Lisa is hosting Scarlett’s birthday in a few weeks, I have been desperately trying to figure out what to do with S & B that day. They are completely fine with family members, including the grans, but they are also protective, so I don’t want them acting like the secret service when it comes to any of the grans friends or their family members, should the visitors suddenly start horsing around with the grans. Only McCaffreys can put their hands/paws on another McCaffrey.
Given that this is not my first rodeo, I am aware of how insane kids parties can become, especially with a giant bouncy castle and the pool to stoke the wee devils’ excitement during a constant infusion of sugary treats. If any wrestling breaks out the melees would be quickly dispersed by the Beagle Bodyguards, who are very close to the grans.
So, the lawyer in me figured I would just anticipate and prevent any potential problems by sending the dogs away to Doggy Day Care that day. Out of sight, out of mind. They won’t know what they’re missing.
But, I’m telling you, I had to fill out more forms than I ever did for the kids and then obtain and forward the Beagle Brothers medical records before I could even schedule a meet and greet appointment. The forms even drew an identity distinction between Beagle and Beagle Mix, that’s like distinguishing between Off the Boat Irish and us Narrowback Irish-Americans. I guess that’s a good thing. Luckily the Beagle Brothers are pure bred Tricolors, as is the Irish Flag, and they have the paperwork to prove it.
I was relieved that they at least made the cut on paper.
But now I am sitting here feeling anxious about this interview.
Not only because I will have to start from scratch finding an alternative location if they don’t get in, but I am worried that the boys may feel abandonment issues when I leave them behind – even though its only for a few hours and hopefully they will be enjoying their time with other dogs at Day Camp, and their spa day baths and mani-pedis.
In a perfect world, they will immediately forget about me and run off with the other dogs and have lots of fun. I’ll have to turn tail and run or I know I may start to weep, if they are the least bit upset, or even if they are not upset, in which case I will experience abandonment issues. Can’t let the women who run TDR see that.
Maybe I should bring a bribe with me to grease the wheels.
Anyway, I will have lots to do over the next few hours, including making myself look presentable – not an easy task. So I better get on it.
You fine, five readers take solace that we have now reached the hump, so, upon reaching the peak, make sure you wave to Friday there in the distance.
Get that work done so that Thursday remains just for tying up loose ends on your projects, and Friday is open for adventure.
Stay tuned for more Beagle Brothers reports. Wish us luck.
And no matter what else is on our plates, let’s make today a great one.
