Floki McCaffrey – Rest In Peace

Yesterday, our daughter Jackie’s family lost their dearly beloved, furless family member, their Sphynx cat, Floki.

That’s Floki sleeping with one of Jackie, Zack and Lucian’s rescue dogs, Koa.

While Sphynx was a new breed for McCaffrey’s, who lean towards rescues,

Floki, an answer to Lucian’s cat dander allergies,

was an instant family favorite. That’s him with his regular Florida spot on Zack’s knees.

We spent some quality time with him each Christmas, up at the Fairy Godmothers’ Breckenridge Chalet. He seemed to enjoy perching on my knee as well. He definitely felt extra-terrestrial and was clearly psychic.

Out of the blue yesterday morning, Floki, only four years old, collapsed at home. Jackie was traveling on business but luckily her husband Zack was there to summon the vet. Lucian was off at school. Turns out, despite regular wellness visits to their top line vet, and the absolute top shelf food and spa-level home care, Floki’s heart had suddenly enlarged and he had a heart attack. With Jackie on Zoom, Floki passed peacefully in Zack’s arms. No need for euthanasia. Jackie is devastated.

I’m sure Floki was met by all of his McCaffrey much furier cousins on the rainbow bridge. Even Celtic fur family members know how to celebrate a crossing of the veil. Coming home. Fergus, our favorite Jack Russell and an adopted Clan member, was certainly there as well. Spaghetti gave Floki the lay of his latest energy plane, his wings and his lodgings. I’m certain Mr. Roger’s carried Floki across the bridge on his back.

All we could do here in Colorado, is offer our condolences to Jackie and her family, say some prayers and light a candle. Share some stories.

Floki, you were a welcome addition to our family, deeply loved and will be missed. Until we meet again. . . .

Well, given that tragic event, Friday could not arrive fast enough. But thankfully it is here now so you fine, five readers slide through this last day of the work week with as little effort as you need muster. The weekend awaits.

I’m going to cuddle some kitties and share the sad news. Then my rounds.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.

Til Valhallar, Floki.

  1. So sorry 😔. That’s tragic to lose one so young. I hope he finds my Hershey & Tootsie up there to play with.

  2. I know you all will be consoled by the promise of St. Francis: We will be reunited in eternity with our creature friends and family…. And Floki has undoubtedly joined Mighty Fergus’ “F Troop” beyond…💯🫶☘️🙏📿💚

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about Floki. It’s always hard to lose a member of our fur family but so much harder when it’s so unexpected and they are so young. I truly believe the greeting at the bridge was a warm welcome for Floki and I pray that Jackie can quickly get past the acute pain and grief so she can remember him and the experiences they shared with a smile in her heart
