Nature Abhors A Vacuum

Yesterday, the weather was beautiful at Casa Claire. So, as soon as was possible, the children were herded, fed, dressed and released onto the property, along with Blue, to explore for anything their imaginations allowed.

During a coffee break, my eyes were drawn to the vacuum of my open back door, which had been left ajar by the fleeing children and filled by Claire and Blue. Both stood peacefully, listening to some Ludovico Maria Enrico Einaudi, playing on my Alexis, who I call Computer.

But as I drew closer, I spotted other things filling other vacuums, like Honey between Claire’s ears.

And after a while, the children came into view.

Scarlett, the most adventurous, was spotted off on her own coming back from the barn. She’s a collector, stones, twigs, bugs, you name it. Has the makings of a powerful solitary, eclectic, hedgewitch.

Before long she was spotted and joined by her wingwoman Savanna.

While, the youngest, Stella contemplated her navel on the Giant’s Causeway.

Later, all three girls were joined by one of the neighboring friends in the magic grotto out front, safely ensconced in the broad limbs of Jack the Spruce while the girls lectured the neighbor on the various types of magical creatures he may encounter there.

And it was while watching the little urchins milling about on Casa Claire that I realized that they were filling my vacuum of time as I await the dropping of the last book of The Claire SagaWhere The Ley Lines Meet – this Tuesday, April 16th.

To be perfectly honest, while I enjoy my Salingeresque isolation here on Casa Claire, it is nice to be distracted by the Ozmandian feral children, even if they sound like Braveheart’s hoards as they race, nonstop, through the house, doing all kinds of mischief to the real and personal property, the humans, the animals and one another. Do you know that I can no longer distinguish their heavy footsteps clomping around from those of the mules? They say these children have titanium bones.

Well, we are now one day closer to that final book release.

You fine, five readers have exactly three days to catch up with the existing TCS if you are going to be on the frontlines of those gossiping readers around the office coffee station, doing all you can to hold back the tears between your chuckles as you recount how this magnificent saga resolves.

But you will also know that little secret I have buried at the very end. Wait, did I say end?

Of course, whatever happens in the future is now totally dependant on how this final(?) book opens on Tuesday. I’m hoping that it rises to the top and invigorates the growing interest in its literary siblings.

I now have to fill the shrinking vacuum of time between now and the drop date with my weekend chores while preventing the Ozmandians from throwing a net over me. I hear whispers of Macbethian plotting.

But first, I’m going to go out and cuddle the kitties then do my rounds.

You fine, five readers sign off on your tax filings and put that stress behind you. Maybe a little literary escapism is in order.

But whatever else we have on for today, let us make it a great one.
