The Wise Novelist

Thanks Pete Sheridan

Peter Sheridan, Esq. is one of the smartest people I know, a real polymath. Like all good BIC’s (Bronx Irish Catholics – He’s a Jasper and strong family ties) he is also a world class ball-breaker. That combination means that everything you do is fair game. Never let your guard down around Petey. Ever.

He’s also a devout Catholic and knows the Mother Church better than anyone I’m on a first name basis with, including the family priests. He channels St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. As with every other topic you can think of, Petey is a canonical expert. He would have made an excellent Pope.

And despite his Brahman status – Harvard Law – he is far more comfortable among the BICs.

I first learned this when I shared an office with Pete, John Lynch and Howard Cooper as summer associates at Cahill Gordon & Reindel – https://www.cahill.com – during the summer of 1983. Pete quickly demonstrated that he enjoyed knowledge for knowledge’s sake and never forgot a fact. Ever.

As expected, Petey went on to do great things in the legal world. Clerked in the federal Courts, worked as an Assistant US Attorney in the EDNY, and hobbknobbed with the legal elites.

Side note, I had originally named the US Attorney in TWA after Pete Sheridan, but since I couldn’t get in touch with him, I changed the last name of that character at the very last edit before publishing. But that is who I was imagining when I wrote it. Not the asshole part, the fact that his was a character who would have ascended to such great professional heights.

So, it was with great trepidation I sent Pete an inscribed copy of my books when he popped back into my life after 4 decades. (We were put back in touch through my sister-in-law, Denise (wife of The Ginger), when the two happen to post back to back on the same Bronx Irish Bars website. Celtic Devine Intervention at its best.)

Anyway, after subjecting me to a constant, running, obligatory ballbreaking in DMs on FB as he read along, highlighting my trademark imperfect spelling and grammar – fuck you AI – Petey finally posted his review of The Claire Trilogy on the stand alone Amazon page listing the entire trilogy.

The TCT hat photo was a marketing stroke of genuis.

Thanks Petey. I really appreciate the review.

(But did you have to out my non-terran status. Where do you think the Celts came from?)

Now finish Finding Jimmy Moran and wax just as elegantly on that Amazon page.

Must keep the momentum going. Thanks all, for your continuing support.

One more blessing my books have bestowed on me is reconnecting me with my oldest and best friends, Riverdale and beyond (except BC ;)). Face Book has bridged the time gap with Riverdale. And that has been grand.

Anyway, now I have a day of chores – including cleaning my house before Lisa returns from her recuperative journeys. So, I better get moving.

But first a kitty cuddle and my rounds. I’m skipping the dreadmill because of the house cleaning.

You fine, five readers get about your weekend chores as well.

And then do something enjoyable, like reach out to an old friend. . . and break their balls. Or read a book and post a review. Just saying.

But most of all, make today a great one.
