Yesterday was Samhain p/k/a Halloween, my favorite Celtic holiday. I enjoy all of the supernatural, spiritual and mystical trappings that have made their way here from Éire across the pond, to Da Bronx, https://www.facebook.com/100091444194790/videos/358310823300145,
and onto Casa Claire, Halloween Spirits & Children – The Wise Novelist.
In preparation, I lit my altar candle and incense and paid due respect to my ancestors from across the thinnest of veils. A Little Devil in All of Us – The Wise Novelist
While the Three Witches watched over Casa Claire looking appropriately ominously dark,

The extended family all prepared over the past few weeks in their own ways. Watching Over The Herd – The Wise Novelist.
But what really brings the magic to this holiday are the children and their annual quest for candy delivered with just enough of a controlled fright to trigger their endorphins. Teaches them the concept of risk and reward. Leap and the net will appear.
Yesterday was no exception. Ever since our wonderful neighbors, Drew and Kelly, started holding an annual hayride a few years back, Lisa and I have again gotten to experience the joy and energy of the little ones dressing up and setting out to knock on strangers’ doors, reenacting the roles of the mystical creatures that cross the veil and roam the earth this night for centuries, going house to house to enjoy the treats left out for them as a defensive art.

So, as part of their preparation, my NoCo girl grans came over with their mom, my Elvin lovely DIL, Georgie, to enjoy some home cooked pizza while they get their makeup done and costumes on before the hayride, which launches from the property right next door.

Georgie’s prior career as a top Aussie model and runner-up to Miss Australia not only passed on some wonderful aesthetic genes but also years of makeup experience, which will come in handy for these three. Luckily, my son Luke is a lion who will take care of any hyenas that come sniffing around.
The proof was in the pudding –

and to prove there is magic in the world, Lisa agreed to sit for a photo, which is about as rare as Haley’s comet,

Which should quell those rumors that she is part of my very active imagination. Wait . . . no never mind.
Anyway, the girls went off with their mother – who was dressed as Wonder Woman –https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BpGA5BqaT/
and they joined the very excited crowd of children on not one, but two hay-riding vehicles. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1DrKU7rrxy/
And Lisa and I were able to share the wonder of Halloween through the excited eyes of those children (and their parents) –https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17twmJLzGt/, https://www.facebook.com/share/r/19a1QpKzxu/
When the last of the T-O-Ts had gone, Midnight the black feral familiar returned to the JTS Grotto for his own treats, a familiar ending to a wonderful day.

Then Lisa and I, exhausted from the excitement and preparation for this magical and mystical holiday, called it a night. Unless I imagined that too.
Well, my fine, five readers, the wonder of the thinning veil is not over yet, as this Sunday is also Día de los Muertos – the Day of the Dead. Given Lisa’s Latina heritage – her grandpa was Joaquim Marrero – and his Castillion genes now flow through to our grans. Thus, the Day of the Dead celebration is there for the taking.
But first I have my Casa Claire chores, and the farrier is coming this morning for Claire and Honey’s mani-pedi.
For those of you still suffering from the sugar rush hangover, feel free to put those spirits in your rearview mirrors and kick back and enforce the day of rest, using the biblical get out of jail free card.
And no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
