A Quiet Day Indeed

Yesterday, we had a return visit from Stella and Lisa was thrilled to give her birthday presents that Lisa has been secreting for the last three weeks in our garage. Lisa likes doing that kind of thing.

Then Lisa spent the afternoon being Nona which means playing with Stella’s gifts, arts and crafts and watching shows that make you want to turn your car on in the garage, etc. That allowed me to get some chores done because I sure as hell was not going to play with rainbow-colored toy unicorns.

I would much rather play with the real silver coated ones that hang out on the grounds of Casa Claire.

Anyway, I did have some geriatric paperwork to take care of – I’m not sure how the general public -non-lawyers – manage to sort through it all – so the Beagle Brothers kept me company.

And I did surface on the first floor to make sure Mittens a/k/a Mike and Smokey shared a delicious lunch under Jack the Spruce.

Here’s a little clearer shot – it’s hard to see Mike in the shadows.

After the unicorns left, Claire and Honey rested out back on Hadrian’s Wall while I took care of some barn chores and humped in another bale of hay.

Plus, our fur family also benefits from grounding.

I did get to catch up with a live human voice during a phone call with Pete Sheridan when I ran out to grab the ladies McDonald’s (the grans remain carnivores – Lisa dabbles). I had a mushroom risotto dish from my frozen collection.

I also got to have a live, face-to-face chin wag with Doc Clarence – Dr. Clarence Calls On Claire – The Wise Novelist – who stopped by to drop off wood shavings from his workshop. That gave me another chore to take care of — I had to hump the five 50 gal. bags of shavings down the long hill to the barn afterwards. I was happy to do it. Beats paying for a gym membership – or for wood shavings.

Doc is one of the most altruistic people I have met out here in God’s country, and that’s saying something.

But overall, Lisa shouldered the Gran duty, so I was left to my own devices. That made it a good day indeed.

Well, TGIF. A magical day even when one is retired from a lifelong profession – comparable to the phantom limb sensation. I’m hoping I get to see a mock-up of the back cover for Free Radical with my little extra’s included. I really want to get the project off my desk and onto BRW’s.

And you, my fine, five readers – you know the drill. In one door and out the other at work – and then the weekend!

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.
