“Isn’t she lovely . . . .”

Next few days are going to be busy. Lisa hired painters to paint most of the main floor and the outside landing living room on the top floor. That happens today.

That means that yesterday I had to climb ladders to remove some of the high flying art work on the cathedral walls of the living room and all of the eye level art as well. Patched a few holes while I was at it.

I have to do the same upstairs this morning.

The painters have to finish today because tomorrow Lisa’s new living room furniture arrives, that means tomorrow me and my handy handtruck will be busy shifting the old furniture to the garage during the early hours.

Knowing this, I had to make sure that I got my eye exam in yesterday. Thank God Lisa is on top of the schedules or she would never get a bit of work out of me.

So, yesterday we went to Loveland and my new eye doctor to get the full dilation treatment and glaucoma tests, etc. Even got the inside of my eyeballs photographed.

Premier Family Eyecare is close by at the Southern tip of Loveland.

Dr. Kevin Tanner is my Optometrist.

Luckily, he has a great sense of humor and demonstrated that he will engage in friendly, though salacious banter throughout the eye exam.

And this event not only broke my no doctor visits this century streak, but proves the reason you shouldn’t go to doctors. They always find something wrong with you.

Turns out I have a mild case of exopheria.

Which has to do with a weakening of the outer muscles of the eyes. In my case, it is age and years of reading lawyerly fine print related.

Once the doc explained it to me, I told him I didn’t want to end up looking like Marty Feldman,

and I would rather wear a pirate’s eyepatch.

He told me not to worry and that simple eye exercises should do the trick. Worse case scenario, prism glasses down the road. I told him that’s not happening.

So, every once in a while I now have to break into my eye exercises which makes me look like I’m having a fit.

But the good news is that the doc’s lovely assistant, Ashley, handled most of my testing and eye photos and had a confident hand and an excellent sense of humor. I told her to be gentle as this was my first. She is buying TWA and I promised I would come up to the office to inscribe it.

As I exited the exam room into the waiting area, I stage whispered the question – “Doc, is it normal for me to be seeing dead people?” which caused a stir with all of the other geriatrics sitting there.

I hope they didn’t think I was referring to them.

Speaking of dead people, the trip wasn’t a total loss. I did get to see a cool set of giant skeletons along the route to Loveland.

which I would have missed on the way home because of my eye dilation.

Speaking of spooky shit, I managed to stay alive into the next round of my Horror Magazine contest, landing first in the top 5 cut-off for this round.

Which means I have to come up with another crazy photo and really bother all of my freinds and family to vote every day so that I can make the next cut, in which the top 2 move on.

What started out as a book marketing lark, has now turned into a legitimate shot for this old dark horse.

Luckily, I have my version of Rocky’s Mickey in my corner. BC – yes the very bad guy from KMAG who is cusinarted in the chopper blades – has been guiding me through the strategy of surviving each round. Here’s last night’s thoughts.

So, my dear fine, five readers, please start posting those FREE VOTES DAILY. Just click on below and hit the vote button. Tell all of your friends.

Well, I need to get a move on so I have everything done before the painters get here.

Thank God it’s Friday, so you fine, five readers know the score.

In one door at work and out another. The weekend awaits.

But no matter what else we get up to, let us make today a great one.

  1. The horror magazine contest Tom referred to in today’s blog is also a fundraiser sponsored by the magazine on behalf of a childrens hospital foundation. And it’s co-hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis and a filmmaker/director of several horror movies and an actor who played Jason in a couple of Friday The 13th movies. So all 3 co-hosts are well connected in the movie making biz. And of course, Jamie Lee Curtis’ resume includes much more than just horror movies.

But it’s not that wide of a stretch between the horror genre of movies and Tom’s genre of Sci-fi/fantasy. So it’s a safe bet that all 3 co-hosts have friends in that arena too that they can connect Tom with if he gets their attention by continuing to advance through these late rounds of the contest and maybe even win.

Then there’s also a mention in the rules of an opportunity for exposure for “an additional fan” to be chosen from those who don’t win. So there’s the competition in the contest and then there’s what sounds like a lark of a chance too. And knowing what you know of Tom’s backstory, doesn’t it seem like Tom’s middle name should be Lark? So here’s hoping!

It’s free to vote for Tom each day. But they also take donations if you want to support the childrens hospital foundation cause. In the case of donations, the amount of the donation is the number of votes Tom gets. But make no mistake, the free votes each day DO make a big difference. After all, he made it this far (top 5 in his group with the next round being quarterfinals) — thanks to all your support!

  2. If you want to stop in, get some fake blood and a mask and hooded cape for me, I’ll pull out my straight razor and fake a slit throat for you- service with a smile 😈😱

    1. Anna The Barber, you devil you! I can’t decide whether this sounds like a great idea for staging a winning picture for Tom in the horror magazine contest …. or more like a setup for the revenge of his barber after years of cheap tips.
