67th Trip Around The Sun With Feet Planted Firmly On Earth

This morning, because I was outside even earlier than usual, I got the wonderful gift of catching Honey still resting in the back of her stall in Claire’s Wee Laire (intentionally misspelled). Normally the long ears on the little mule hear when I open the gate and Honey exits the barn before I get close enough to see her at rest. She’s skittish and doesn’t want to be trapped in the barn by an approaching human. Especially a man.

Claire, who had heard me exiting the back door of the house, had left her post in the barn doorway and already met me at the side gate. She likes to make sure I come bearing gifts.

When I looked past Claire and saw Honey, I grabbed the iPhone and started snapping.

That is the light from the overhead heater.

Of course, once Honey realized there was a paparazzo about, she was up and out of the barn in a flash.

It was one of a few recent shots I managed to catch of Honey that was an interesting composition. On Sunday, while I was hanging the hay bags I looked over and spotted Blue laying in the foreground with the mules asleep in the distance. Full body contact.

Claire then wandered off to snack on a hay bag I had hung just off to the right of the back field leaving three of our murder of crows on the fence babysitting the still resting honey.

What I didn’t realize at that moment is that the animals aren’t just being lazy while I wander around doing chores, they make regular body contact with the earth for brief periods for the same reason I will kick my Birks off and place my feet directly against Mother Gaia while I sip a cup of coffee or stare at the stars. On most evenings, when I follow Jeter outside for his end of the night piss, I’ll stand – at a distance – on the earth in my bare feet, unless there is snow on the ground, although, even then, I will search for an open patch to get my feet in contact even if its just a minute or two (although 15 minutes to 1/2 hour is a solid grounding).

Drives Lisa nuts because when I come back inside the souls & heels of my feet are black. Even after a scalding shower, my feet maintain a permanent earthy hue. Hobbit feet.

I was never meant to be a foot model. Or a model, full stop. Or wear real shoes for that matter.

It’s called earthing or grounding.

There’s a great documentary on the concept.

So what my fur family on Casa Claire intuitively understand is that we should ground ourselves regularly. It clears out the anti-oxidants. Balances our electrical systems. My mules and dogs are all surprisingly healthy without much intercession on my end. Even my little man Jeter, who is older than I am in dog years, still gets where he needs to go, when he needs to get there.

And I haven’t been to a doctor this century.

There are no coincidences. And if its the placebo effect, that’s okay too. Mind over matter works just fine for me.

Anyway, other than my weird sleeping patterns, I seem to be holding up okay after 67 trips around the sun. Still tossing hay bails, shouldering pellet bags, shoveling shit, and snow when necessary. Still have one good right cross in me should the need arise.

Channeling Spaghetti.

I hope to keep my feet firmly and regularly in touch with mother earth, until the ET’s take me on that road trip, or I slip through an interdimensional portal, or past the veil. And back again.

I may invest in a few grounding mats and a king sized mattress cover for the winter.

You should give it a shot.

Anyway, Monday is behind us and Tuesday awaits.

I have my kitties to cuddle and rounds to make.

Then earn my keep.

You fine, five readers shed those shoes and plant those feet on a patch of earth while you sip that coffee this morning. Can’t hurt.

And most of all, let us make today a great one.

Oh, and thanks one and all for the positive response to the WTLLM book cover.

That provided me with a whole different electrical charge. Much appreciated.

I think I’ll take my next cuppa out back for some grounding.
